Advice on pruning / grooming opinions for indoor 🥑 plant?

I've seen videos of the foliage getting fully removed from the stem only for it to grow strong again from side shoots. Is that a reliable way to prune ?

Also I'm familiar with the process of air layering, is it possible or easy to do with avocados ? I'd feel guilty throwing the foliage away... (As lanky and skinny as it looks 😅)

Thanks for all opinions & advice !

What would you do? 🥑

We've grown this avocado tree from seed years ago now.

He's gone through some rough patches (losing all his leaves on trips away) only to come back.

He's becoming a bit too stretched out and long to manage so I'm looking for all and any ideas.

I've seen videos of the branches getting snipped off completely and the tree giving new dense shoots, but I don't have the experience of pruning avocado trees and don't really know where and how to start.

He's propped against a south facing wall and seems to love it there (as long as I don't forget to water) but I'd appreciate a more "groomed" look if possible.

Thanks all! :))

Found the extended family of one of my lawns residents across the road!

11 days ago I shared 2 wild orchids that are sprouting in my garden. A pyramid orchid and a bee orchid.

Yesterday I went on a walk just around the block. And found around 7 more pyramid orchids, all feet away from each other.

Got me wondering if that's how my lawns found it's "resident" . Either a flower loving bird , or a strong wind, but the gift is definitely appreciated. Keep 'em coming !

(Would be delighted to find a whole nother family of bee orchids too!) 🤞

Found my next project this autumn ! Japanese Holly Fern.

So I found this beautiful plant and am alreadyarking my calendar for an estimated timeframe to come back for spore collection 😉

I've already gathered the success in spore propagating some wild forest male/buckler ferns last year.. (I am currently compiling the full journey to post here soon!)

So I'm happy and confident to undertake propagating this new beauty. Apparently the water film fertilisation process is not needed but from what I read, the process is longer...

Also, this holly Fern is much more hardy, resistant to drafts and drier air so thats a big plus!

Wish me luck and keep an eye out for my soon to come success post !

Thanks all for the read :3

My lawns VIP residents. They don't pay rent, but they negotiated permanent No-Mow Zone patches.

Please enjoy! I'm still awestruck every time I look at the Bee Orchid especially!!

(I will also be attempting seed propagation if they are kind enough to pay rent this fall)

Wish me luck!

The props were a bit wilted but here I go with faith in the wonders of propagation!

Flowers removed, sphagnum moses ready for the prop home.

Just leaving the cuttings dry up the callus before I place in the sphagnum bed, to avoid early rot.

The tray will go in a mini 60-80% greenhouse with aeration windows until I see them invigorate and root (🤞).

Refreshing summer showers for my Jungle velvet and Pinstripe Calatheas.

Decided to shake off last cold season's dust with a refreshing outdoor rain stretch. (And apologetically appease the jungle velvet for missing a few days of watering leading to some crisped up leaf edges 🙈)

It's a calm cloudy day so no sunburn risk, I let the rain freshen up the leaves for about a 20-30 minute session before I relocate them back to their usual spots indoors.

I can almost hear them cheering and singing :')

In memory of/ went out fishing: my venus fly trap

Casual post - some story filler:

I bought the three plants last year, for my little pastime recreation; they were all leading happy lives indoors, a happy slow life as I was learning to care for new types of plants.

With winter's onset I decided to place them outside in a greenhouse for hibernation/dormancy.

During hibernation, some unfortunate stormy weather threw the pots about pretty roughly on two different occasions...

Venus had the worst of it, losing near all traps and having roots completely bare when I found it. I was confident they will recover come next growing season.

I repotted them in sphagnum and perlite, and they all seemed to like their new homes, recovering steadily.

Early spring, I placed them outside in the sunniest garden spot ..

One morning I went out to refill the water tray, only to find the Venus pot ransacked!!

No sign of it or any roots even anywhere...

Anyways it will always be remembered as a plant that went through a lot, but held on strong despite life's storms. This resilience did not go unnoticed. On the contrary, it was noticed so much, that it was probably taken to heaven by plant angels themselves xD

(My theory was that birds took a liking to it as a nifty nesting material, and nicked the ambitious little plant) At least this is the theory I gave myself to give my heart peace 😅

Story over thanks for the memorial! 🥲😅😭
