Love/hate relationship with Monarch - Does anyone use it for budgetting? Other recs?

I used to track my yearly and monthly budgest in a DIY Google sheet, but I wanted to switch to something more automated and less amateur looking. I recently signed up for Monarch (plus version even) and set it up. I love the interface, the different menus, and the ease of expesnes being automatically categorized.

However, I'm very disappointed with their "budgetting" aspect. From what I understand, you're not able to see your yearly spend per category next to what you had acutally bugetted, nor the difference between the two year-to-date. You can only see this in the Month view, and the remaining positive/negative value in the month view is only the YTD remaining value, not what you acutally have left to spend in the present year.
TL;DR: I don't like that I can't see the bid-picture state of my yearly finances that way.

I'm torn because I really like their app but I can't beleive they don't have this super basic feature that my spreadsheet had. I feel like Monarch is basically just a cashflow aggregator app, but an actual budgetting/planning app.

Has anyone had the same realizaton/annoyance? (Did you find any workarounds?)

What other personal finance / budettings apps would you recommend?

Do you know any long-term (7+ years) gay couples who are closed and have always been closed?

Just wondering how realistic this is. I'm sure some exist, but if you had to estimate, what percent of gay couples that have been together for that long are fully closed?

$120k salary but no growth in the last 3 years

Here are the facts: I know it's above the median income, I work remote, I don't have any dependents, and I don't live in a high-cost city. I haven't gotten a raise in the last 3 years, and I'm not sure if a new raise is in the horizon.

I feel like everyone always talk about growing your salary every year either by getting raises or switching jobs. On the other hand, I also think it's a good deal and know the job market is rough out there.

Should I "shut up" and be happy, or should I genuinely be looking for alternatives?

I was blown away by how good the Super Mario Galaxy movie was

I wanted to express how much I loved this movie lol.

I saw the first movie and really like it. Then when I saw the trailer for this one, and I honestly thought that it might be just okay. However, I was absolutely surprised and blown away by how good it was, and I would even say that it was better than the first.

This is what I loved the most (not necessarily in this particular order):

  • The art & visuals: so many scenes were beautiful and made you feel like you were truly in a different universe
  • The characters' personalities and backstories: I loved and thought it was hilarious how they chose to showcase each character's personality and backstory. Like of courseee Yoshi is clumsy and friendly. Of courseeee Fox is the coolest dude everyone wishes they could be. Of courseee Bowser Jr. has weird daddy-issues and only cares about making him proud despite argubly being more of an evil genius than his father.
  • The plot: for a "family"/"kids" animated movie, I thought the plot was actually quite strong. It kept me engaged all the time and I felt like there was no shortage of action (maybe too much action sometimes?). It didn't feel predictable to me.
  • The fight scenes: super creative and entertaining

The only scene I found weird was the one where they're hiding from a "real-world" dinousaour lol. Even the animation threw me off a little bit there, but oh well, that was like ~3% of the movie's screen time.

What were your guys' thoughts on the movie?

Would you trade off sleeping at home and seeing your family often for working on long haul routes and seeing more of the world?

I'm finally senior enough that long hauls are becoming an option, but now I realize that the decision isn't as straightforward as I thought.

What do you think is better to cut calories quickly: do a 24-hour fast once per week or skip breakfast seven times per week?

Obviously, I could also just reduce calories per meal, but feel like this takes way more effort in tracking.

What would you do if you could stop working today and had $4k/month spending power?

I'm not near traditional "retirement age" at all but this might become a real possibility for me thanks to some good investment decisions.

However, I don't even know what I'd do if I retired. Am I odd for thinking that maybe I want to work until I no longer can work? I'm thinking of maybe downgrading to part-time though.
