I'd like for the quill to be right near the open Hand and Net, but it's buried way off in Narnia behind the Cat Toy and Trowel. Is there a way to assign the order of your tools?

So, this seems to be a bug, but if you put a pair into the breeding nest, and then immediately take them out, it gives you credit for having Bred the Voidlings, even though no egg was produced and you didn't go on any missions, so with a bit of clicking you can very quickly move through the Breed Voidlings 5, 25, and 50, netting yourself a free 8500 Research without much effort.

In the grand scheme of things, 8500 research is not a lot, but it was interesting that it gave me the Steam achievements and assignment completion.

Since I've seen the dev answering questions in this sub, maybe they'll patch it if they see this.
