Catia v5 & Teamcenter client: Are there any specific files I need to modify for a domain migration?

Odd Question.

I'm migrating a Teamcenter system to a new domain. The 4 tier rac client has been migrated and I'm working on migrating the Catia + teamcenter client. I'm not a catia guy (NX and Creo mainly) so I'm not used to working with the Tcic integration.

Do I just need to migrate the teamcenter 4 tier client directory with it's included tcic integration directory? Or is there a specific file like the ipem_config.properties file for creo?

OVMS and Comma? Or is this replicating features?

Possibly stupid question. I have a Kia EV6 that I'm about to pull the trigger on a comma 4. I found out about OVMS recently and would like to be able to have an open system to replace the Kia subscription to start my HVAC over wifi and lock / unlock my doors. (kia helpfully put these featured behind the higher priced tiers).

I remember that some branchs of openpilot offer these features, or am I nuts here?

Edit for more info: 2023 Kia EV6 Wind RWD Long range with HDA (not HDA2). Made sure I was compatible with Comma when I got the car. I'm just curious here if Comma handles the core functions I'm interested in with OVMS or not.

Open source appliance firmware similar to Marlin for 3d printers?

Had a crazy idea as I woke up and wanted to check if this has been started already. Something like what Marlin is for 3d printers, but for home appliances. As anyone who's had to replace a controller board on a appliance knows most of them aren't user serviceable, and the replacement part costs as much as a new appliance sometimes. Why not an opensource alternative project?

High level idea: Base this around the ESP32 as the central cpu and use custom adapter boards to allow the esp32 to interface with the appliance. Using a clothes washer as an example you'd need a control board that would include button interfaces that match the OEM board, various plugs to other components in the washer, and a socket for a replaceable ESP32. The boards could be sourced via companies such as PCBway either as kits or as completed boards, and you just need to provide a ESP32 and program it.

I know I've seen something similar in the past for an open ECU for automotive usage. Curious if a project for appliances has been considered or if there is a gap here? On the plus side this would help alleviate waste as older machines could remain in use longer. You'd also have the ability to technically upgrade appliances with features they might not have had. The esp32 has wifi and your washer could then have a app that's contained to your home. You'd also have the possibility to add new modes that might not have been available on your appliance. For instance specific gentle modes or keep fresh modes in terms of a cloths washer, or a dish washer that knows your cheap electric rate times and only runs during those times.

Zune STLs?

After reading someone's comment about finding a case on AliExpress I got to thinking. How many Zune STL or 3mf models are out there?

A quick search on Makerworld turned up a couple stands and a croc charm

Yeggi has some repair parts for the 80gb zune

Hell I found a print of a toy zune for Guardians of the Galaxy fans.

However there are no cases. Few repair parts for say a whole zune body.

No shame here. Perhaps this is something we can focus on as a community. The Zune is probably one of the better devices you could start on for 3d modeling accessories just because of it's basic shape.

Just a watch for tween... is it possible?

After a really bad experience trying to do this last year that wound up with me returning everything and getting a full refund I need to give this another shot.

I have two kids that I need to communicate with. One is 6 so the syncup watch is perfect IF THE DAMN THING WORKS. The first one I got kept resetting itself. It got returned as faulty. I'd be willing to try it again.

My main problem is my tween. A syncup watch is too kid like for them. I'd like to get them a watch with cell service, but last time I tried this tmobile had no way to get them just a watch. They wanted me to pair a watch with a cellphone, which I do not want to do yet.

Is this even possible with Tmobile or am I better off switching to Google Fi? Before anyone jumps on me they advertise exactly this use case. Being able to get a pixel watch and use that as a phone.

Dell G5 5505 SE Red Keyboard replaced with RGB

Greetings all,

Had this system for longer than I want to admit to myself, but it's still cranking so it's being kept operational.

My keyboard crapped out a couple years ago and this year I purchased a replacement. The existing red led keyboard was replaced with the RGB.

The keyboard works (huge improvement over the red led model that completely tanked and stopped taking inputs) however the power button doesn't light up and the RGB LED does nothing. I know I have two issues.

  1. The alienware software was removed: This model came with Windows 7 or 10 if I remember. It's been upgraded to 11, and the "supported alienware software" doesn't support this version of windows. Is there a modern version of this software I can download?

  2. Directionality of the connector on the mainboard. My eyes are shot and I can't tell if this is one of the few types of mainboard connectors that requires the contacts on the flex to face away from the board. Normally this is a no brainer (usually flex cables the contactors face the board) but Dell is known to use oddball parts. Does anyone know what the correct directionality of this is?

Can anyone help here?

Bluetooth connection to car that requires you to select something from a screen?

Dug out my zune 30 to have an alternative while walking and driving. However I tried a simple bluetooth adapter with my car and I have a scenario where the car wants you to go to your bluetooth settings and select the broadcast ID. Can't do that on a simple bluetooth transmitter.

So has anyone found a different transmitter that would work? Or has anyone figured out how to make the zune appear as a USB device? Or maybe a intelligent bluetooth communication that the car could control?

2018 Hyundai Santa Fe + security patch + remote starter

Hi all,

I've got a Hyundai santa fe LE that has a after market Excalibur RS-x70 installed by a local shop. Normally I DIYed my starters, but this time I went the quick route. Flash forward to the security update and starting the car is causing the car alarm to go nuts.

So here's the question: Have there been updates to firmware or methods around this issue?
