Also, thank you to u/Animenforever for the inspiration with Hori Week. We liked the idea and wanted to do something similar for Yanagi. We did decide to move the milestone from day 300 to day 365 so the longevity feels more complete.

We all know that Souta tripped so Horimiya could run. But the Souta tripping incident is more than just a cute plot device; it is the ultimate Canon Event that prevents the entire story from being a tragedy of missed connections.
If Souta hadn’t gotten that nosebleed, the wall between Hori and Miyamura’s two worlds would likely have stayed standing forever. At school, Hori would have continued her exhausting performance as the perfect, popular girl, while Miyamura would have remained the gloomy loner, graduating without ever revealing his piercings, tattoos, or his true personality.
Even if Ishikawa had eventually confessed to Hori, she likely would have rejected him because he only knew the ideal version of her; she needed someone who could see her messy home life and share the burden of her responsibilities, a role Miyamura only filled because he was invited into her house that day.
The ripple effects would be devastating for the rest of the cast, too. Miyamura acts as the social bridge of the series; without him, Ishikawa and Yoshikawa would likely remain distant acquaintances rather than the close-knit pair they become. While established couples like Sengoku and Remi would stay together since they predated the main events, the group as a whole would never have formed. Instead of the warm, inclusive circle of friends we see, the characters would have remained in their separate social silos.
Ultimately, without that one accidental trip, Hori and Miyamura would have spent their high school years sitting just a few feet apart, both hiding their true selves and never realizing that the person who could finally understand them was right in front of them the whole time.
