Who owned Netherfield?

Given the other thread on "Netherfield" being available for purchase, I can't help but wonder who actually owned Netherfield?

It seems a little odd to me that it was clearly long-term vacant ("Netherfield is let at last!") yet surely must have been kept up for Bingley to move in easily? So that means someone with old money owns the place and is keeping it staffed and in good standard, yet isn't using it for a long time? Anyone have theories on why this would be and what sort of true owner it might have? Are there historical examples of estates like this being vacant in this way without being neglected?

At a best guess I'd maybe assume it belonged to someone who died (perhaps part of a portfolio of properties of an exceptionally rich person), and couldn't be let whilst some probate or something was going on, or the family were deciding what to do with it.

In this episode myself, Tommy Thompson, and Jeremiah Reid discuss the role of generative AI in game development and how it applies to roguelikes in particular. We try to carefully navigate a line between simple hype or hate in what is becoming an increasingly used set of tools in game dev.

I'm getting AHI spikes after 2 blissful years of CPAP and I don't know why - can you help read my OSCAR report?

There are so many good tasks that utilise the lake in the antipodean house, either as part of the task challenge (get the Swiss ball in the boat, etc) or with the contestants choosing to utilise it (eg Matt using mud for the inappropriate cake). The fact that it's constantly referred to as stinky and sewagey helps a lot. It's just such a funny set piece to utilise.

It's a shame the UK house has such smaller grounds. Obviously inevitable, being based in London. The closest we get in the UK one is encroaching onto a neighbouring golf field.

A real pet peeve of mine is finding an interesting thread started here asking for a particular type of game, but then all of the answers are just a game name. No explanation for why it fits, what makes it good, what's it about, etc. And often these are the most upvoted comments too. Example 1, example 2, example 3, example 4, all from the last month. Not every top level comment is like this, but a lot are.

Please take a moment to do more than just write a game name. If you care enough to respond to someone asking a question, then care enough to explain your answer too. It can take a lot of searching around to even figure out why the answer is a good match. And if the answer is based on your personal opinion or tastes then the justification is left entirely open to guesswork.

And maybe think twice before upvoting such answers, even if you intuitively understand and agree. Look for the high effort comments instead, or add to the discussion with your own thoughts. Here's an example where most of the highest comments actually answer really well, just to show what good looks like.
