I’m an incoming freshman this year, and my first day of classes is in a few days. Given this, my teachers have begun posting introductory announcements on Canvas. Nothing crazy there.

However, one of gen ed teachers just made an announcement today that said “Please have make sure you have your book and have read chapter 1 along with the syllabus for the first day”. I asked a senior I know about it, and he said he has NEVER heard of that being asked before and finds it quite ambitious and ridiculous of my teacher. According to him (and some other reddit posts), most people don’t even buy their books until after the first class (though I know that’s not technically recommended).

So what do you think?? Is this a crazy ask from her? Has anyone else ever experienced this? Thanks for reading :)

Hi!! I was just wondering if the freshman obligatory “UNV 101 HJ: I Am Miami” class or the “TCE 110R HE: Learning Strategy/College Success” course assign much actual work?

I visited the emergency room a couple of months after I turned 18. This led me to have 2 minor surgeries. I was in the first semester of my senior year of high school and was/am still living with my parents. I am also still on my dad’s health insurance. I had/have no job and have never paid any taxes, opened any credit cards, or bought/rented cars or property. 9 months later, the hospital I had one of the surgeries at and the hospital I went to the emergency room of have both sent me (not my dad) to collections. I’m pretty sure that despite my general living situation being no different than someone under 18, since I was 18 at the time, there’s nothing more my dad and I can do other than get on the phone with the collections agencies and start payment plans so he can start paying my debt off. Is that correct? Also, since I have absolutely no credit history, what does this mean for my credit score (if anything)?

Both collectors are third-party.
I am still 18, and had the surgeries and the ER visit almost 9 months ago.
My dad says insurance covered their portion. Honestly, I’m more worried about my credit score than how much my dad will have to pay/trying to figure out how to lower the debt. It doesn’t really matter to him as long as he can work out a manageable and reasonable payment plan.

I just wanted to know if anybody else has experienced anything similar. I am on a scholarship from Miami that is supposed to fully cover any fees that don’t get covered by other grants and scholarships. When I went to look at my Fall 2026 bill, it said my billing account was in the negative. I looked it up and from what I understand, that’s actually extremely beneficial for me and means I’m getting the negative amount refunded to me. Is that correct?

Hi!! I know that the Daily Tasks update each day after they’ve been completed, but do the uncompleted ones ever go away? I have one that says I need to request another user to do a paired dance, but I don’t own any paired dances and I don’t wanna spend any avacoins/crowns on something I won’t ever use again just to fulfill the task. It’s been there for around 4 days now, and I was just wondering if it will ever disappear without completion?
