Why do some people treat these systems like HAM radios?

Context: I’m a heavy equipment operator in a surface mine on the east coast. We use CB’s in all of our equipment for safety-related communication, which is what they’re designed for.

Fairly often I’ll hear people on the CB from miles, sometimes even states away (most definitely using illegal setups) using the frequency just to try and find people to talk to. This, for one, is aggravating, as I have enough to focus on as it is without some guy going “hellllooooo can anyone hear me” every five minutes, but it’s also dangerous for us because if there’s an emergency or someone is calling out their position in the mine so that we don’t hit each other, they could get stomped off the radio by these people.

And no, I can’t just turn my squelch up, the way our mine is laid out means we frequently have obstacles between us and have to have the squelch low to be able to hear each other.

So why do people do this? Is there any real legitimate reason for this or is it truly just people who don’t feel like getting a HAM license. Sorry for the rant, thanks for reading.

So I’ve always played it where if one model in a unit is toed into a terrain footprint, the entire unit has benefit of cover, since attacks don’t target individual models they target the whole unit. But I was playing with someone new and they told me I was wrong, so I looked it up and I was.

So I’m confused. If an attack targets a whole unit, but benefit of cover only applies unit-by-unit, then how do you know whether to apply benefit of cover to that unit’s save?

No fun, I like to be close to the weld with my offhand propped up to give my stinger hand stability, but doing this with short sleeves on hurt lol. Slag flying into my forearm the whole time and gave myself a pretty decent “sunburn”. Felt like I was on fire. Do not recommend, wear your PPE yall.
