Spoilers ahead for the original film and the edit.

Synopsis: After a near miss while driving, James Sunderland meets Mary Crane. When tragedy strikes, James finds himself trapped in the idyllic and nightmarish town of Silent Hill forever.

What’s changed: Now I generally liked Return to Silent Hill when it came out, and actually leaving the theater, I wasn’t even thinking of doing a fan edit. As an adaptation of Silent Hill 2 it was abysmal, but it had some decent ideas that worked within the framework of what was presented. But the way it was structured, especially toward the end, was a bit weird. And they pulled their punch with the ending as well, combining the “In Water” and “Leave”/“Maria” end as well as bringing in the loop theory. All well and good, but it led to an ending that tried to have its cake and eat it too.

So now, the movie opens with James’s narration from the end of the film before looping back to him meeting Mary. At the end, he wakes up on the hospital before going back to the scene of him meeting Mary. The idea is to show that James can, to a point, remember and try to move on but just can’t.

One of the more controversial additions to the film was “Mary Angela Laura Crane.” Basically, that all the characters James meets (besides Eddie) are all manifestations of Mary. I did cut out the reveal scene with the gravestone, but I did keep the idea in the film, it’s just not as obvious. The admissions paperwork to the hospital that James finds still shows “Mary A. L. Crane” and we still see Angela wearing the same floral dress that Mary wore. I also kept Angela telling James he could come find her later, as I wanted the manifestations of Mary to give him an “out” and let him know that it was okay to move on. But in classic guy fashion that clue goes right over his head.

All the flashbacks that were sprinkled into the film have been consolidated into a sequence at the start, and most of James having flashes of Mary and such throughout the film have been cut.

One of the biggest changes I made was the addition of what I call “rewind loops” a few times throughout the film. These happen in instances where James dies or should be dead: at the very start after the “In Water” voice over, another one in the apartments and in the hospital, and the last one at the end when James sees the young couple walking outside of the hospital.

I’ve also sprinkled in some “new” music here and there (but it’s all Silent Hill music) and made a lot of nips and tucks to the segment in the town itself. Even though the majority is a delusion, I tried to cut down dialogue and stuff that wouldn’t make sense in the moment, like Eddie asking James what he does and such.

Final runtime: 91 minutes.

Original runtime: 106 minutes.

File information:

1920x800 MP4 file, about 9.5gb in size. I normally do a larger file alongside a smaller one, but for this even at full quality the size wasn’t too much bigger than the free download limit so I just reduced the bitrate a bit.

English audio, 5.1 surround. Subtitles will be available at a later date.

Full list of changes and such will be included in the download link, but it’s not totally exhaustive: I had to make some trims and cuts here and there to accommodate moving flashbacks and I didn’t document everything.

[REVIEW] Rogue One: The Andor Cut

I recently watched Rogue One: The Andor Cut by David Kaylor/ u/ExuberantRaptorZeta and to sum it up I absolutely loved it.

Rogue One has been, since release, one of my all time favorite Star Wars films. My top 3-ish is a big cloud with no specific order that changes each time you ask me, but since 2016 Rogue One has been up there. I really liked Andor as a series as well, some of the best Star Wars stuff we've seen recently (to be fair, I don't really dislike anything from Disney, but there's some stuff I like more than others).

Now, having seen Rogue One a bunch, I figured I'd be able to easily see where stuff was changed, removed, etc. This was not the case, and there were only two things cut that I really noticed but didn't actually clock it until afterwards: Bor Gullet when Bodhi goes to meet Saw and Krennic going to meet Vader. But I didn't notice they were gone because the editing was poor, more that they truly weren't needed (I didn't even realize Bor Gullet was gone right away). Holding back seeing Vader until the end was perfect, and really shows him as a force to be reckoned with. I also really enjoyed seeing the new Tarkin, even though I think bringing Peter Cushing back from the dead was ultimately unnecessary. The Leia deepfake I actually didn't think worked as well and I actually think I like the theatrical version better. But it's only one shot, so on the whole it's rather inconsequential.

The audio was amazing. Score replacement can and often is extremely tricky, and using the score from Andor was a great call. Not only does it tie Andor and Rogue One together, it actually changes the tone of Rogue One quite a bit. Often times it felt like a new film, and definitely not in a bad way.

Now I watched the ~8.2 GB file so some of my issues may be because of that and how I watched (streamed from a hard drive to my TV via Plex). By and large the video was excellent, but there were some instances where footage appeared to be slowed down some and didn't look quite right. The video also struggled a few times in darker scenes with banding/pixelation. I'm still going to give the Blu-ray files a download and burn it to disc. I liked it that much regardless. If you're a fan of Rogue One or Andor, I definitely recommend giving this a watch.

My wife had a male radiologist for an HSG scan and I’m pissed

I don’t like the idea of another guy having his face all up in my wife’s business. I don’t care that he’s a “doctor” (was actually a resident working under an attending). But apparently I’m the bad guy for feeling this way and having this opinion.

I love the face reveal of Kylo Ren

They weren’t necessarily foreshadowing it, but I don’t think anyone would hold it against you if you thought he was old or deformed or had some sort of injury. Instead he takes the mask off and…he’s just a dude. It’s almost anti-climactic and I love it.

What is my responsibility for selling something that turns out not to work properly?

I sold some LG surround speakers to a coworker about a month ago. I had them for about three years, and they worked absolutely fine. They are not working for him though, and he has asked me what I want to do. I do not feel that it is my responsibility as I made the sale in good faith that they worked.

What should I do?

Both scores were composed by James Horner so he basically plagiarized himself.
