What are your thoughts on this portfolio - the ETFadviser (Australia) YouTube channel reccomended it over the typicaly VGS and VAS combination. What does anyone else reckon? Is this something I should look into for opening my portfolio, or should I stick to something simpler like VGS+VAS or ASX200+S&P500?

For reference, the video was from 2 hours ago here "VAS & VGS: Is This Still The Best Aussie ETF Portfolio In 2026?"

Best Stock Brokers For ETFs Monthly Deposit of ~$1000

So I'm looking for the best stock broker that will have the least fees. I aim to deposit around $1000 each month, which would qualify for me to get the free brokerage on CMC.

Currently I'm looking at CMC vs Webull as both offer cheap or virutally free brokerage, but have also heard good things about things like Stake

Also, should I be considering both purchasing and selling fees or just purchasing fees?

Thoughts on gold stocks at the moment?

I thought gold was a reliable stock to continue growing but it seems to have recently taken a big hit. I am just starting to open an investing account. Should I be looking to invest in gold/mining, or is it going to continue to drop.

My thoughts were that if I buy it around this time when its at a low, it will go back up soon once the market recovers (around the Iran war etc) and I could make some good money. Thoughts on gold?

18 Year Old in Australia Looking To Set Up My Finances

G’day all,

About a week ago, I turned 18, and from various generous gifts, I received $18,000. I also now have access to an investment account worth about $5,500. This investment account was originally estbalished as a child account for me under StockSpot, meaning that it was free - however, now that I am 18, its no longer a child account for me under my parents name and its no longer free.

I also have a casual job at Coles, where I work anywhere from 6-18 hours a week.

Obviously, my first thought was to take the majority of the money I have/been given and invest it to earn passive income while I don't need it for another 5-7 years. This is where my questions arise.

  1. If I am to invest, which investing platform/broker I should use - I want something with low fees and easy to use, that is obviously going to be successful and not lose my money. As I have had "professionals" at StockSpot manage my stock account as a child, I do not have any experience or knowledge regarding the sharemarket or how to invest

  2. Should I look for an investment platform like StockSpot or similar where they manage my account and take a percentage of my money as payment, or should I try and invest myself?

  3. Is it even worth investing anymore, as I am aware the latest federal budget has changed the way taxes work - is there a better way I could use this money to make me passive income?

I am trying to find the best ways to maximise how I use this money to set up my adult life, obviously with the goal of buying a property one day.

Any advice, suggestions, or clarifying questions are welcome. Thank you!

Unfair Treatment of a Casual Worker?

Hi,

So a few months back my friend, who is a casual 17year old in dairy, requested some availability off of work but had it denied by their DM. It was the week of easter, and their DM said that they had to "deny" the request as it was easter. I wasn't sure whether DM were allowed to deny the availability of a casual, especially someone who was underage and still in school. Does anyone know whether this is illegal?
