Just got back into VoTV after a hiatus and..

I'm pretty sure something just tried to eat me???

I'm sorry for all the ambient sounds, too. I'm just getting my rig set back up after a move and haven't finetuned everything yet.

Finally made the trip to SagA*

That has to have been one of the most gorgeous sight-seeing trips I've ever been on, and the amount of cool and unique discoveries was astounding along the way!

I even took the time to visit the DW station before heading off back towards Colonia to plan my next adventure.. this time targeting discovering NSP's towards the roof of the galaxy.

Strange sound coming from rear right.

Fresh grease, gears look amazing (they're brand new replacements), adapter looks fine, and it doesn't make this sound without load.

I'm completely beside myself trying to figure out what's causing this sound. Any ideas?

Carrier Operating Costs

I can't tell if I'm going crazy, or if operating costs have gone up substantially, but by all accounts my Carrier seems to have become ~7mil/week more expensive than it reasonably should be according to the FCC.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Does anyone have any good tutorials...

...on how to remove the idler and wheel gear from the Nomad N3's gearbox.

Me again, finally got ahold of support and it they're going to replace the gears themselves, however they want me to get the idler and wheel gear out for pictures. Try as I might I simply cannot get them to come free, and I'd rather not thrash the gearbox itself as that'd be on me, and I'm not keen on spending 400 bucks to replace the damned things.

The drive gear came out as smooth as could be, but no amount of wriggling a flat head, plastic pry, what have you under that idler will get it to come free, so I can't even begin to get the wheel gear out of its slot.

Everything's presently sitting on my kitchen floor with all the hardware stowed in a Tupperware and a rag stuffed in the open gearbox so crud doesn't get into it, but if anyone has suggestions I'm more than open to hear it.

Acedeck Nomad Gearbox Tore Itself Apart.

So I've only put 260mi on my board since I got it a few months back, but noticed a strange noise from the gearbox, specifically when decelerating or coasting. Last night I decided to pop them open to see what was going on and clean them out, and was met with this "beautiful" scene.

I've never seen a gearbox chew itself up this bad before, at least not when that volume of grease is present, so I have no idea what happened..

I reached out to support early yesterday, but have yet to hear back from them. I'm hoping they'll be able to send me replacements.

I want to call something to attention that may upset some people.

We have had plenty of discussions about how insurance feels mishandled due to persistent hangar bugs as well as other misc bugs causing us to lose our ships that have existed since 4.0.

With that in mind, and how insurance is the way CIG wants to handle things going forward, they need to address modularity and component insurance. If I have LTI on a ship and it's components through an aftermarket pack such as my Idris K kit then those components should either *not* be counted towards the insurance value of my ship, or they should be returned to me/my vessel when claimed for free.

This patch isn't it.

3 ships lost to "Unknown" when summoning them in my hangar within the first half an hour, lost a 4th to "Unknown" mid quantum jump, got my 5th ship to a mission location and got insta-killed through a wall by an enemy, loaded back in and lost a 6th ship to "Unknown" in my hangar.

I don't have the money to get my ships back because of the wipe. I'm done for the foreseeable future, this isn't what I pledged to.

Edit: and the dupers are already about with billions of credits. - many thanks to u/CaptainZyloh for putting this rumor to rest. This at least alleviates that pain point.

SN2 is officially topping the charts for sales! (Steam?

I can't express how excited I am for this game, and it looks like that's the case for most of us!

Reports are showing 5mil in wishlists, too!

She's beefy, and she is very, very responsive. Took me a couple miles to get the trucks tuned where I wanted them, but aside from that I'm already in love!

A little bit back I was meandering about the edge of the bubble and I spotted a chain a couple commanders were working on. Following it out I discovered a string of absolutely amazing systems, and after skulking about every week or so to ensure they weren't chaining towards one I had my eye on, I finally pulled the trigger.

This system is going to be my new passion project for likely the next few months as establishing it will mean that not only will I have a bastion ~200ly from the nearest largely established systems, but commanders heading out this way and those lads chaining around in the area hopefully won't have to rely solely on their carriers to get commodities.

I snagged a system next door as well that I'm going to nurture to be a refinery system in hopes that the two will be able to link for even more commodities!

Edit: I suppose I should talk a little bit about the place, huh?

What immediately caught my eye upon entering the system was the VAST amount of space to build, but that was only the cherry on top as opening my scanners revealed that I had an opportunity to claim a system with not one, not even two, but three Terrestrial Water Worlds. On top of that, scanning the rings I found the system possess a Low Temp Diamond hotspot, a Void Opal hotspot, and a Tritium hotspot; what more could I ever ask for?! This is my perfect system, my dream system.
