~5 minutes of Free Spirited!

Hi guys! I've been busy with school and stuff for quite a while, but I finally managed to make a base version of my minecraft mod which I will name "Free Spirited" for Neoforge 1.21.1!

With all the stunning, beautiful terrain comes the NEED to cross them. usually, normal players remedy it with mods that add a mount to reduce travel time, or just skip it entirely with teleporters. However, I thought that maybe making the travel itself the FUN part would be great!

Here's the link to the mod! It is currently under 'review' as of now which means it will show a 404 page, but I'm sure they'll accept it in a week or less which is when you guys can download it! (The Ori model is still being worked on. I decided to remove armor rendering on it entirely as it looks kinda weird in my view)

I tried my best in imitating the movement and physics from the Ori games, even minor details too! Free Spirited v0.2.1 (alpha) has these features so far:

  • Coyote jumps: you gain a momentary timeframe(5 ticks) to still jump even after stepping off a block for a while
  • Air control: while airborne, you can freely adjust your movement instead of being locked in a direction like vanilla to maneuver across poles and cliffs with ease, gaining momentum mid-air
  • Wall slide: an automatic feature where you will start descending slower when in contact with a wall, but beware that you will still keep your falling momentum
  • Wall jump: unlike normal wall jumps, it pushes you away from the wall to let you reposition better with Air control
  • Double jump: self explanatory! but you can reset it by touching a wall to jump again on air
  • Apex gravity: you descend a bit slower at the top of your jumps, letting you have more time to estimate and reposition.
  • Input buffering: even if you pressed a key too early, you can still do the action so long as you keep the key held when the correct conditions meet. (for instance: pressing spacebar too early when walljumping, hopping up once again instead of just falling down for missing the timing by a millisecond)

I am currently planning to refactor the entire mod to make it more smoother and less bug-prone, then I will add back the Dash and, finally, the Bash! I'll call it the "Dashing and Bashing" update! there are still so much for me to do and learn, but I hope you guys enjoy it! Moving on, I will implement a progression system to the mod so you wouldn't just leap across entire chasms at the start of the game, and maybe some enchants to make certain skills stronger too.

Mods in the Video:
- Larion world generation
- William Wyther's World Overhaul
- Terralith
- Distant Horizons
Shader: Bliss

"Exploring a new land! Hopefully this one does NOT have angry owls..."

I found new terrain generation mods on top of a heavenly shader that feels almost similar to the Ori experience but in Minecraft! So far, those weeks of staring at java code to learn is finally starting to pay off.

The dashing mod itself doesn't have wall climbs and breakfalls as shown in the video as it is from other mods though. It does have the similar mechanics: You can reset dashes from touching walls, and you can only dash once on air (though there are no visual effects or sound yet)! And Yes, I adjusted the Ori model to be a little bit shorter and have bigger eyes
