Free Spirited 0.9.7: exploring Nirun with Ori movement in 3d, now with custom animation TRIGGERS + Refined water movement AND water dashing!

how FAST can I traverse around 1000 blocks with the mod? can I reach the BIG FLOATY things in the distance?

please do note that these animations are placeholders 😭
Planning to add vfx such as light particles from dashing and bashing to water splashing to the mod! Customizable Player Models API is an essential part, therefore it will now become a core required dependency of this mod!

this might seem scummy, but I'd really appreciate some GOOD sound packs for adding sounds to dashing, bashing, water dashing, and double jumps! (idk how one could produce spirit sounds though.) I'm not willing to rip off audio from the original games due to fears of legal issues

aaaaand here comes the long wall of texts regarding WHAT changed:
- added animation triggers WITH the help of Customizable Player Models API for: dashing, wall sliding (+ going up while wall sliding), double jumps, being on the surface of the water (idle, moving), water dashing (submerged, surfaced), bashing
- fixed bashing calculation to make it more accurate to the camera's Y level
- added forced player rotation snapping for: wall sliding, dashing, water dashing, swimming under water
- the player now moves ALONG the swim direction under water
- added WATER DASHING: your favorite traversal tool for tricky situations under water! (I did not include dashing INTO water because it is too DIFFICULT on top of it being LAGGY which drives down the performance of the mod)

So, what's waiting for the future of the mod?)

Free Spirited's development will end after custom climbing controls (from WoTW), sound effects, higher fidelity animations, vfx effects, skill trees, and custom enchantments are added.

Beyond? most likely custom combat system, and possibly...world events - where you have to discover large structures and obtain fragments from difficult dungeons to seal certain curses or save things around the world to make: Oceans habitable, certain biomes less dangerous (desert, snowy ones), and occasionally encounter ancestral trees. It will be split into 3 or 4 different mods which all depend on each other to function, but some possibly standalone.

now, if I AM veeeryyy capable by then (which is probably around 2 years later or smth), I could look into coding custom biomes and terrain tailored specifically for this scale of mod. After all, Minecraft worlds aren't infinite for no reason

Larping spirits!

I headcanon that spirits are something like young kids that try to act like whatever's the coolest to them without even understanding what the stuff is!

This one saw some cool Danish hat and stole it from a museum, trying to act "Serious >:(!!" even though they unironically forgot the backpack and just wore the crossing straps 😭

It would actually be adorable if they were trying to imitate stuff and "roleplay/larp" 🥹

Art by me!

Water Movement of Ori inside Minecraft? — beyond "Bashing and Dashing". (Showcase video with original game comparisons)

Hello again, the subreddit of Ori! I'm back with further updates on the mod Free Spirited, even though all the "effective" moves are added like Bashing and Dashing, because I felt like it isn't Ori without even the nichest of mechanics that go unnoticed under one's eyes.

Therefore, I analyzed the way Ori swims in water, studied some MORE mathematics, and did my best in implementing those quirks of Ori inside the plain ol' world of Minecraft! Enjoy!

I am planning to release this bundled with custom climbing controls. Hopefully, I will then have the time to start adding visuals to my mod and add configs to it too, as well as...err...adding progression, enchantments, and so on.

Much love, Neiru Sharpleaf!

Free Spirited - Bashing and Dashing! (an Ori movement mod I made for Minecraft!)

...yeah yeah it might be a reupload of the same thing, but the last post's video was low quality and blurry as heck and it didn't really properly showcase the mod! So here's a more properly recorded Showcase!

copy paste of the Original post's desc:

Hello guys! I FINALLY managed to figure out how to make bashing in Minecraft WORK! You can use your own arrows as a bashing target, or parry skeleton arrows to shoot it back at them, or just send any mobs into the stratosphere for them to plummet to their death! and with it, the long awaited BASHING&DASHING UPDATE IS OUT for Free Spirited!

https://modrinth.com/mod/free-spirited Link to the movement mod, for 1.21.1 Neoforge!

Figuring out the math for 3d bashing was rly difficult...but with time and constant trials, I managed to make it feasible! You can control your bashes with WASD or controller sticks!

little info about how my bashing works ingame:

- bashing entities will launch you from THEIR position

- bashing projectiles will launch the projectile from YOUR position!

- bash refreshes your dash and double jump!

dashing also got an overhaul!

- you dash ~3 blocks

- you can dash in any direction

- it refreshes upon touching walls or bashing

- it can be cancelled if you jump, dash, or air jump during the dash!

HOORAY!

Mod on Minecraft I'm making for Ori movement, update!

Hi guys! Even though I know that the pace is quite slow, I've still made considerable progress on the mod! I added: Wall jumps, Air jumps, Wall slide, and Server synchronization which means it is finally, FINALLY PLAYABLE ON MULTIPLAYER ON REAL SERVERS WOOHOO!!!

Not only that, some moves complement each other!
- If you hold jump while walking against a wall, you climb up to gain 4 blocks of height! (Like WoTW Ori! It's an engine bug/thing I unintentionally replicated)
- Air jumps refresh upon touching a valid wall! Don't spend 'em all in one place! (or air!)
- Holding jump while on a wall makes you leap up higher for a wall jump! I integrated variable jumping into wall jumps!
- not pressing movement keys or pushing against the wall makes you push away from the wall a bit! (an engine bug/thing I unintentionally replicated)
- Wall slides now register only when you move towards the wall within 45 degree angles! (or a 90 degree cone) Meaning that you won't be annoyed by it when running and jumping in tight corridors!

And yes, I nerdily and meticulously analyse the movement engine in Ori to even replicate some of the bugs.

(The dash seen in this video is from a separate mod of mine which I plan to implement into my current mod)

Only two features left... Dashing(proper) & Bashing.
Free Spirited 0.6.4 (a far, far update from the earliest of 0.2.1!) out now on MODRINTH!

Mod I'm making for Ori movement (Video comparison between mine, vanilla, and original)

Progress is INCREDIBLY slow, but I'm still changing things and making it better day by day, even if this summer is incredibly busy for me! Yeah, I know, it is dry, but I'm proud of what I've achieved after 4 months of Java :D
Overall, the bare minimum of platformer character controls is complete, whereas Minecraft's own stuff is incredibly stiff which you genuinely can't patch it with extra double jump mods or a generic editor, as they're all bound to the underline engine of Minecraft which I decided to butcher and change!

Behind this lies a whole rabbit hole of programming concepts, and networking the mod for multiplayer is just as tough as making the features itself. The original 0.2.1 was feature rich, but my god it was buggy as hell. I don't know how long it will take by the time I add bashing, but I hope to achieve it one way or another! I handle the entirety of the mod without AI or other cheating tools, so that factors in the time to draw or imagine animations for Oi too when I add touch-ups later.

The land of Nirun! (Modpack I made to imitate the world of Ori)

The Ori model V2 is generally complete! I believe I have FINALLY managed to combine the BEST of the BEST I could find from the terrain mods to create a world as CLOSE to the world of Ori as possible in Minecraft: Java Edition! (If only I finished the movement mod fast enough...man, I'd have my time bashing those FREAKIN ARROWS)

And with this, the release of the v2 of my Ori model (as shown in this video) is here, available for the minecraft mod Customizable Player Models! You can download it from the bottom of my mod's description through a mediafire link (pls do be aware that the mod itself is in a REALLY early stage and it has horrible bugs plus no dashing and bashing <;(. )!
https://modrinth.com/mod/free-spirited

Here are the mod combinations I used to achieve this world:

Tan's huge trees,
Larion Terrain Generation
William Wyther's Overhauled Overworld
When Dungeons Arise (to make it WORTH it to explore)
Lithostitched
Hybrid Aquatic
Giant Oak Tree

Will I make them into a modpack? uhh maybe, idk. I'll think of making it into one IF I can

~5 minutes of Free Spirited!

Hi guys! I've been busy with school and stuff for quite a while, but I finally managed to make a base version of my minecraft mod which I will name "Free Spirited" for Neoforge 1.21.1!

With all the stunning, beautiful terrain comes the NEED to cross them. usually, normal players remedy it with mods that add a mount to reduce travel time, or just skip it entirely with teleporters. However, I thought that maybe making the travel itself the FUN part would be great!

Here's the link to the mod! It is currently under 'review' as of now which means it will show a 404 page, but I'm sure they'll accept it in a week or less which is when you guys can download it! (The Ori model is still being worked on. I decided to remove armor rendering on it entirely as it looks kinda weird in my view)
https://modrinth.com/mod/free-spirited

I tried my best in imitating the movement and physics from the Ori games, even minor details too! Free Spirited v0.2.1 (alpha) has these features so far:

  • Coyote jumps: you gain a momentary timeframe(5 ticks) to still jump even after stepping off a block for a while
  • Air control: while airborne, you can freely adjust your movement instead of being locked in a direction like vanilla to maneuver across poles and cliffs with ease, gaining momentum mid-air
  • Wall slide: an automatic feature where you will start descending slower when in contact with a wall, but beware that you will still keep your falling momentum
  • Wall jump: unlike normal wall jumps, it pushes you away from the wall to let you reposition better with Air control
  • Double jump: self explanatory! but you can reset it by touching a wall to jump again on air
  • Apex gravity: you descend a bit slower at the top of your jumps, letting you have more time to estimate and reposition.
  • Input buffering: even if you pressed a key too early, you can still do the action so long as you keep the key held when the correct conditions meet. (for instance: pressing spacebar too early when walljumping, hopping up once again instead of just falling down for missing the timing by a millisecond)

I am currently planning to refactor the entire mod to make it more smoother and less bug-prone, then I will add back the Dash and, finally, the Bash! I'll call it the "Dashing and Bashing" update! there are still so much for me to do and learn, but I hope you guys enjoy it! Moving on, I will implement a progression system to the mod so you wouldn't just leap across entire chasms at the start of the game, and maybe some enchants to make certain skills stronger too.

Mods in the Video:
- Larion world generation
- William Wyther's World Overhaul
- Terralith
- Distant Horizons
Shader: Bliss

"Exploring a new land! Hopefully this one does NOT have angry owls..."

I found new terrain generation mods on top of a heavenly shader that feels almost similar to the Ori experience but in Minecraft! So far, those weeks of staring at java code to learn is finally starting to pay off.

The dashing mod itself doesn't have wall climbs and breakfalls as shown in the video as it is from other mods though. It does have the similar mechanics: You can reset dashes from touching walls, and you can only dash once on air (though there are no visual effects or sound yet)! And Yes, I adjusted the Ori model to be a little bit shorter and have bigger eyes
