internship at NYC Public Schools — what should I expect?

Hey everyone,

I’m a CUNY senior and I recently got an IT internship with NYC Public Schools. I’ll be working onsite at a school helping teachers, staff, and students with tech issues.

From what I understand, it could be things like helping students who can’t access certain websites/apps on their Chromebook, login issues, account problems, printer setup/troubleshooting for teachers, classroom tech problems, etc.

I’m excited, but also kinda nervous because this is my first onsite internship and my first time working directly in the field inside a school environment.

For anyone who works in school IT / edtech / DOE tech support, what are the most common problems teachers and students usually face? Anything I should learn beforehand or be prepared for?

Things you wish you knew before starting?

Would really appreciate any advice, tips, or “expect this to happen every day” type of insights 😅

Thanks!

Got a hydrant ticket in NYC and I’m kinda confused what to do here. The officer got my plate wrong (off by one letter), but somehow the VIN on the ticket is correct. They also messed up the expiration date (put 3/26 instead of 3/27) and didn’t even list the year.

What’s weird is when I check the NYC pay/dispute site, nothing shows up under my actual plate. But if I search using the wrong plate they wrote, the ticket pops up and still shows my VIN.

So now I’m stuck… do I just ignore it since it’s not under my plate, or should I fight it using all these errors? Anyone in NYC deal with something like this before?
