Canon R6 Mark II vs. R7: Full frame with a 100-400mm or APS-C with a 70-200mm for family and youth baseball?
I’m trying to decide between these two camera systems and would appreciate some real-world advice, especially from anyone who has used both full frame and APS-C.
Option 1: Full frame

My main subjects will be my 12U grandson playing baseball and my two young granddaughters, who are always on the move. I’ll also take outdoor family portraits, especially around sunset, and some indoor family pictures.
For baseball, I can get right up beside the fence around the field, which gives me some flexibility with shooting positions. My grandson also pitches, so I’ll be photographing him on the mound as well as batting, running the bases, and playing in the field.
The R7’s 32.5MP sensor and extra reach appeal to me for baseball, while the R6 Mark II’s full-frame image quality and low-light performance are attractive for family photography. The 100-400mm also gives the R6 II considerably more reach than the 70-200mm on the R7.
For those who’ve used these cameras, how would you weigh the R7’s reach and pixel density against the R6 II’s full-frame advantages? Would you choose the 100-400mm on full frame or the 70-200mm f/4 on the R7 for youth baseball?
My wife will use the camera, too, mostly in auto mode, so ease of use and weight matter. I want something we can both enjoy carrying around.
I’m also planning to learn Lightroom and make physical prints, including yearly keepsake books for each grandkid. I want them to grow up with printed photos of their childhood and family, not just pictures buried on a phone. Most prints will be 4x6 or 8x10, with occasional larger ones.
I’m not looking to go professional. I just want to take better, more intentional pictures and build a collection of memories worth keeping.
If you were spending your own money, which setup would you choose, and why? I’d especially appreciate advice from anyone who’s made the jump between APS-C and full frame.
