I saw Justin post this on his Bluesky:

I saw Justin post this on his Bluesky:

More announcements coming in a few weeks at Otakon.
Looks like a few deals on live action sentai tokusatsu shows (my mistake; you would think this many years into anime, I'd know the difference between Super Sentai the show and tokusatsu the genre by now! I deleted the other thread because the title was too misleading. Thank you for the correction!); the best are below, but there are a few others at 20% off or less that I didn't list. As always, YMMV on coupons. There are other things on sale, but I tried to focus on anything close to 30% and up or things I don't see pop up for sale that often. If you have a coupon not listed, put it in the comments!
*NOTE: I do a search for "discotek blu ray" and "discotek", but it doesn't show all products for some reason. There could be more stuff I'm missing!)

ANIMIEGO:
These sales still look active from my previous post, but the coupons I saw are all gone.
On Amazon for $29.97 (regular $49.95)!
So I've been hoping for a re-printing in the Deep Dives, but a copy of Battle Athletes popped up on Mercari that was more reasonably priced (about $75 compared to the $200 on eBay), and I would rather not risk missing out, so I grabbed it.
I have the Pioneer DVDs, and one of the things that always irked me was their weird choice of putting the intro only on the first episode and the ending only on the last, so the four episodes on each disc ran together like a long movie. I always thought the logo splash on top of the Japanese logo was weird, too. Completely cutting out the last episodes credits, which shows what happens to everyone, was a crime against humanity. Considering they didn't do this stuff with other titles, Pioneer made some weird choices with Battle Athletes (this is not hate, BTW, I loved Pioneer! Just never understood why they did what they did).
I knew the Discotek version restored it. Popping it in tonight (and this being the first time I'd watched the show in years), I honestly got a big grin on my face seeing things the way I had always hoped to see them.
To be clear, the extent of how badly I wanted to see the show this way, I bought a Japanese copy of Volume 8 and a region free player (back when they weren't easy to get without paying a TON) JUST for those last episode credits. They weren't on YouTube at the time and it meant that much to me to see them, and at that time the only way we had them was via a website that took screenshots.
Anyway, this was a big deal for me. Battle Athletes wasn't my first series, but the first one I bought (found the first OVA VHS tape in a rental store bargain bin) and I fell in love with it. Absolutely one of my favorite series and has a lot of sentimental value for me because I came across it when I first really started getting into anime. Shoot, back in the day I ran a YahooGroups for the show and had a website cataloguing every bit of merchandise that existed. I was THAT into the show.
I already have seen some Discotek releases, so I know their quality, but going into this with full knowledge of the way the show was originally presented to North American audiences and seeing it restored in this way... like I said, big grin on my face. It means a lot.
AND the inclusion of the music video! A music video I only discovered existed way back when because I bought an anime cel from it and tracked down ONE obscure website that even mentioned it. To be able to see the video, in its full glory, was awesome.
I mean, we're talking I'm someone who sought out every book, merchandise, and content I could find. To be able to experience brand new content from the original show, twenty-six years later (DEAR LORD I'M OLD), is an incredible feeling.
So yeah, this really does show the importance of Discotek releases, and I'm really, incredibly grateful we got this & they put this kind of work into it.
Did I overpay a little? Yeah. Do I regret it? Not at all. I'm so happy with this, I can't believe I didn't jump on it when it first got released.
Not seeing a lot on Discotek at the moment, but some crazy good sales on AnimEigo. Percentage off is based on retail prices from MediaOCD's site (for some reason, sometimes Amazon shows a sale price as the base price, so it doesn't look like it's on sale). We know that coupons are YMMV, so post 'em if you have one!
Also, I only listed the biggies here but there are other Blu-rays I didn't include that range from 10-12% off. They are lower priced ones (like Riding Bean at around $10), but still really good prices for them.
NOTE: As I was reminded below, these will NOT have the slipcovers.
*Megazone 23 ($25.95 - 35% off)
*Metal Skin Panic Madox-01 ($11.70 - 35% off)
*Bubblegum Crisis ($31.32 - 37% off)
*Bubblegum Crash ($15.46 - 38% off)
*Nobody's Boy Remi ($42.05 - 39% off plus I have a coupon making it $29.43 - 58% OFF!)
*Romeo's Blue Skies ($31.10 - 48% off)
*Looking for the Full Moon Volume 1 ($36.69 - 39% off)
*Looking for the Full Moon Volume 2 ($36.69 - 39% off plus I have a coupon making it $25.68 - 57% OFF!)
*Sasuke ($36.69 - 39% off plus I have a coupon making it $29.35 - 51% OFF!)
*Black Jack OVA ($32.53 - 40% off)
I've pretty much been in a deep dive (er... not the Discotek-kind) tonight, trying to understand all the legal complexities that caused the Vampire Princess Miyu situation. The more I read, the more I realize how incredibly LUCKY we were that AnimEigo still had the rights when AIC wound up in it's legal mess that caused this. (EDIT: Misspoke here; AIC IS in a legal mess, but the Miyu thing probably would have happened regardless because of a separate legal mess. Still a mess)
As much as the situation isn't ideal, we could easily be in a situation where no one had the rights & it disappeared forever, or AnimEigo started on the blu-ray later than they did and run out of time.
We are seriously, really lucky this blu-ray is happening.
Every once in a while I scroll the Discotek blu-rays on Amazon,, so when I see stuff, I try to let y'all know (especially because sometimes coupons don't get noticed).
FYI: Apparently everyone gets different coupons (I did NOT know this), so YMMV. If you see something not here, give it a shout out and maybe someone has the same coupon.
1.) Not on sale, but Captain Harlock is back in stock: https://a.co/d/00cyZPh8
2.) GTO is on sale (20% off) but has a coupon, making it $40.76 (32% off; regular price $59.95): https://a.co/d/0dtwQtBW
3.) Happiness of the Katakuris (20% off), but has a coupon making it $14.97 (25% off... this one always has a coupon): https://a.co/d/00mXaZFs
4.) Kamen Rider Amazon 1974 is 24% off but has a coupon making it $26.59 (almost 47% off; regular price $49.95): https://a.co/d/0a8cQbEJ
5.) Ouran High School Host Club Live Movie is $12.31 with coupon (this seems to always have a coupon): https://a.co/d/0g8MJ1HM
That Kamen Rider price is crazy... nearly 50% off. O_O
It's so elegant. Refined. It speaks to the soul in a way I don't think any other artwork has. Sometimes artwork is just so... I dunno, busy, y'know? But THIS... this SAYS something. It makes you think about the human condition and our place in the world.
Just had to say, amazing job, guys! Your long hours of work on this cover art is appreciated, and it's honestly going to be hard to outdo this one. Chef's kiss
(NOTE: I'm guessing this is okay here since AnimEigo is tied to Discotek and there's no AnimEigo reddit?)
In two months, gang!
EDIT: Sorry guys, I made a mistake encouraging we talk about what unannounced / unlicensed titles we want to see. It crosses over to requests too easily, and that was unintentional. I debated deleting the thread (if it becomes too much of a problem, I understand it being removed), but I'll leave it for now just because of the Justin comments still being noteworthy.
Sorry for giving you extra work, mods!
FYI, Captain Harlock is restocked. (I HATE it did it now, when I'm tapped out, but happy for those of you who can get it)
Here they are! Also quite a few discounted DVDs.
EDIT: Did anyone notice the board games now in the store? One Piece, Lupin, and Cowboy Bebop!
EDIT #2: For those of you still looking, it APPEARS that Medabots Season 2 dub is back in stock. Still limited to one per person.
Hooboy, I'm really struggling today; third time's a charm!
I saw this on Facebook. It looks like we're getting a new Dive on Friday!
I just saw this on Facebook:
In case you haven't picked it up yet, it looks like Amazon has Zone of the Enders marked down to $35.49 (originally $59.95). I don't think I've seen it more than 36% off before. O_O
EDIT: One more for ya - Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva is $11.07 with the current coupon:
It looks like it just went live! Check it out!
EDIT:
Justin posted something about the site and address the issues we've all been talking about. You can read it here:
