Slab Collection Progress - 5

Slab Collection Progress - 5

Today we have a single promo. True Exodia. One of a kind artwork in a pretty special rarity. I don‘t see this card very often, might be underrated. Not sure if people do not know about it, or they don‘t care for it. I love these types of „one of a kind“ artworks.

Are PSA 7 unlimited the sweet spot for vintage as a budget collector?

Hey there,

Yugioh Collector here. I've been watching Pokemon from the sidelines for the past couple years, and although I'm not planning to switch, I am at the point where I consider dabbling in Pokemon for a change.

I'm considering building a small collection of the 151 gen 1 from their vintage sets (base, fossil, jungle) in unlimited, mainly for nostalgia and my pc, as a side project if you will.
I first thought about doing them all graded, but that would probably be too big of a mountain to climb, given it's a side project. So the next best thing, and probably more reasonable, would be to acquire at least some of my favorites, or the holos, as graded cards.

After doing some research, I come to the conclusion that the heavy hitters are practically locking me out of anything 1st edition or shadowless, aswell as 9/10 grades, simply because they're way above the budget I would set for myself for this.

So that leads me to my assumption that PSA 7 unlimited, with a new(er) cert might be the sweet spot for me as a collector on a budget.
My train of thought: With newer certs being more strict on vintage, I would be getting pretty clean cards, at a price point that is actually doable for me. I would assume they are not as liquid as higher grades. Buying them should be easy, while selling them might be a bit harder.

My question is, would PSA 7 unlimited vintage at least hold their value in the future, and are they actually somewhat liquid? I'm not planning on selling anytime soon, but I always try to keep in mind the financial reponsibility that comes with spending a lot on collections.

Also in general, would you go for japanese or english prints? My understanding is that japanese prints had better print quality and quality control. Therefore the pops on higher grades should be higher, ergo PSA 7s lose value and liquidity? Is that a correct assessment?
I've also noticed that unlike in YGO, japanese pokemon does not seem to be cheaper than english, at the very least when talking about vintage. I really like japanese cards, but it seems like both for raw aswell as for graded cards, english seems to have an edge in my configuration?

Slab Collection Progress - 4

Today‘s theme: the perfect pairs. There are some cards that just belong together and luckily, they work together perfectly aswell. Just like the big 3 do, these Weekly Shonen Jump Promos and the two World Superstars would feel incomplete without their counterparts. They are also some of my favorite artworks, and favorite cards in my collection in general.

Cheers

Slab Collection Progress - 3

These just came in and thought I'd share.

There's a lot of nostalgia going on for me when I see those two. Especially D.D. Warrior Lady is one of the card I remember the most from back when I still played in what is now called the goat format.
The D.D. Assailant is one of my favorite artworks. My goal is to call a secret rare from Dark Revelation 4 my own someday. That would be one of my grails honestly. Until then, this Super Rare from Destiny Board Traveler must suffice.
In the back of my mind, I'm considering building a dedicated goat era slab collection long term, imagine all the staples in a big display. Damn.

Slab Collection Progress - 2

Let‘s show off some blue-eyes. These are the three bewd slabs I currently own. I love them all, but my favorite is without a doubt the JMPR. Never reprinted, ocg exclusive, and in my opinion, along with the YAP1 the greatest artwork this iconic monster has gotten so far. The Ukiyo-e, with a twist to the third bewd artwork, is also a card I won’t let go off anytime soon. My next target is the japanese VJMP blue-eyes, but I‘m yet to find one I‘m willing to pull the trigger on.

Cheers

Slab Collection Progress - 1

Just sharing some of my slabs in this series.

I‘m trying to collect graded cards in sets aswell as I do raw cards. That can either mean collecting an actual set in the same grade, or getting fitting cards for my collection. I‘ll sometimes pick up single standalone cards if I really like them, or they‘re unique prints, but usually I like my stuff coherent. In this case, I have the DMG and DM ghost rares, and my plan is to get them some buddies in form of a bewd and red-eyes ghost rare in the future.

Main Binder Progress - 4

And on we go. Today I have a lot for you to look at. We are on my pages for the collector‘s tins and master collections.

For CT it started out as: „I‘ll get the OG CT1-2“. Then I thought oh well let‘s add the GX CT3-4. and of course after that I thought oh well, the 5Ds ace monsters are nice aswell, let‘s add them. Long story short, I ended up collecting all collector‘s tin‘s secret rares, along with a couple filler ultras because Konami decided to print weird amounts at some point.

The Master Collections to me are actually one of the most underrated sets. It‘s almost only banger cards in a nice secret rare print. I‘ve added the ocg master collections 1-3 to round out this part of my main binder. Enjoy!

Main Binder Page - 3

On we go. Today we have 2 pages themed around archfiends and darklords. These are less about nostalgia for me, but more about the appreciation of the artworks.

In the future I might build a archlord page to go with the darklords and expand the archfiends to a double page, since there are more than enough cards to fill another one.

Am I missing something? I think Mist Archfiend would have to be in there somewhere, maybe on the future double page.

Main Binder Progress - 2

On we go. This time, let‘s check out the heart and soul of the binder: the artwork pages.

Dark Magician: on the left we have 9 artworks of Yugi‘s trusted ace monster. To the right are 2 more artworks alongside some of the many different variations the dark magician has seen over the years.

Dark Magician Girl: all of the artworks of the fan favorite female counterpart of DM. I‘ve added the „Spice Magician Girls“, how I like to call them, for some flavor. The WJMP Magi Magi Magician Gal remains one of my favorite cards ever.

Blue-Eyes: Kaiba‘s ace Monster has seen a ton of artworks and interpretations over the years. So much so that I had to spread them over 4 pages. My personal favorite, besides the original artwork of course, is the trio of japanese promos on the bottom of the first page.

Red-Eyes: Last but not least, the red-eyes. I‘ll be completely honest, I think red-eyes hasn‘t seen nearly as much love in terms of artworks as Yugi and Kaibas mascots, but there are still a few bangers. My favorites being the original artwork ofc, alongside the YAP1 and especially the SD1 Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon.

So that‘s it for now. It‘s a bit more in one post this time, but I thought they belong together because these pages have been where I started out with this binder, and it took quite a long time before I was satisfied with them. They are now the core of the binder.

Feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and let me know if you have any ideas for tweaks or something that‘s missing. There‘s more to come, but for now, enjoy and have a good day.

Main Binder Progress - 1

Just thought I‘d share some of my main binder. It‘s still in progress, but I‘ll be showing off finished pages in this series. This binder is mostly about artwork / archetype pages and complete sets. Let‘s start with some of my first pages:

YAP1 - this is my opening page. I love the unique artworks and it works perfectly as a one pager, being comprised of 9 cards.

Exodia Artwork page - self explanatory. Went with the unlimited lob for the parts, LART for necross to save some money, and the modern exodia variants

Gods - the 3 main artworks of each god card

DM - BB - DP - 3 different artworks for the Dark Paladin Fusion

Feel free to let me know what you think and drop some opinions / inspiration if you like.

How rare are 3/20 java gloves actually?

I‘ve been trying to get 3/20 gloves for my javazon for years. I‘ve always picked up magic gloves and I tried shopping at anya‘s for hours, without luck. I cant bear shopping for multiple hours in one sitting, so I kinda gave up. My amazon ding’d lvl 99 last night, so there‘ll probably be quite a big break until I play her again, but damn…. why can‘t I find a pair of those? I completed my holy grail in the meantime for heaven‘s sake :D

Grade LP WP-11 cards?

Hey. Looking for some opinions. I‘ve had these three wp11 cards for years and even though I like them, for me they don‘t really have a place in my collection, because I like coherent stuff, they just feel kinda random laying around in card holders for years. Can‘t seem to sell them either at what seems to be around market price. So I was thinking either I set out to collect all 20 wp11 cards raw, which would be quite a steep investment for something that isn‘t really on top of my list in terms of collection goals, or I consider getting them graded, so at least they‘re conserved, and possibly a bit easier to sell.

I‘ve never graded myself, but with the german psa office opening up I thought they might be fitting as part of a test run. I‘m aware they won‘t be getting a 9 or a 10, I‘d probably put them at around a 6-7 each with what‘s going on with the edges and corners + semi-vintage debuff. But what do I know :D

Would that be reasonable?

OCG series 2 layout binder - progress

Been working on a binder that focuses on character themed pages in the ocg series 2 layout, which is my favorite. Here‘s a little sneak peak of how it‘s going.

I found curating for certain characters to be more tricky than one would expect at first. The lifespan of the series 2 layout was shorter than one might think, so I keep running into the issue that some cards I would love to include have never seen a series 2 print. That being said, here are some of the pages I‘m pretty happy with so far.

Starting off we have a Yugi double page of course. He has plenty of iconic cards in super and ultra in this layout, as you‘d expect. Next up is Kaiba and Joey. Joey actually has more iconic cards in foil prints than Kaiba has in my opinion. I could possibly even come up with a joey double page, but one is good for now. Followed by that we have pegasus, and lastly Marik. Marik was especially tough because a lot of his cards from the anime were not released in series 2, so I had to settle for his revival jam meta from his early appearances in the anime.

Coming up are pages for:

-bakura‘s destiny board and dark necrofear
-masked beast and masks, referncing the tag team battle against yugi and kaiba on the roof top
-bandit keith‘s machines
-mai valentine‘s harpies
-weevil‘s insects (will be a stretch, but doable)

Happy to hear some opinions and possibly some ideas / inspiration for more series 2 pages in the future.

Binder Planning - Spellcaster vs. Warriors or Light vs. Darkness

Planning some new pages for my binder. Which concept do you like more and why?
There's a lot of overlap in these two concepts, so I'll do either / or. I'll either do one page for Spellcasters and one for Warriors next to them, or I'll do Light vs Darkness. Not asking you to tell me how to collect YGO, but I'd love some opinions. Feel free to suggest cards that would fit better or that feel out of place in your opinion.
I'll go for their original prints unlimited mostly.

Yu-Gi-Oh! card in a standard size slab?

Hey,

I‘ve recently bought a Chaos Godess PSA 9 and I‘ll be honest, I did not notice when buying that apparently the inlay fits a standard size card, which means my Chaos Godess has room to move around, although it doesn‘t really.

So, this weirded me out because I have never seen this and I was starting to look for other irregularities and compare it to all my other slabs. I noticed there‘s some sort of foil / sleeve inside the case, the border around the card seems oddly textured, the contrast of the label was different as in slightly thicker text / barcode and the red was the tiniest bit more saturated compared to my other slabs. So I got skeptical because for a moment I considered the possibility that I simply bought a fake. However, all the security details are there. The lighthouse label says Nasdaq instead of clct like my other cards, but it‘s there. The psa text in the red border seems fine. Cert number and qr-code checks out, the card itself seems perfectly fine.

Since I couldn‘t really find any info online about cases where yugioh cards got slabbed in a pokemon case, I resorted to gemini to give me an ldea about what‘s going on. According to gemini, this cert number was issued around 2019, psa still used „nasdaq“ in their lighthouse label, printing thickness and color were slightly different (which seems perfectly reasonable) and the wrong slab was basically a human error that slipped through QA, which supposedly happened here and there.

Now, this is probably a bit silly, but I would love for an actual human and experienced collector to confirm these errors happened during that era, reassuring me that there‘s nothing fishy about it.

Also, would this be eligible for reholdering?

Cheers

All my other slabs have a later cert number, which would explain why I might not have come across a slab from this production line.

Since I couldn‘t really find any info online about cases where yugioh cards got slabbed in a pokemon case, I resorted to gemini to give me an ldea about what‘s going on.
