32mm on the Rapid Roval CL III yay or nay?

Hey all,

Couple of months ago I got hit by a car whilst training and my Canyon Aeroad Katusha got destroyed. This bike had 23 and 25mm's width tyres.

Bought a Tarmac SL8 Pro, SRAM Force E1's with the Rapid Roval CL III's wheels and so far loving it.

I've put Pirelli P Zero 4S 30mm's with Pirelli TPU inner tyres on it and really love the smooth rides during Fall and Winter. Also, not a single flat. Im at 6k kilometres so far this year.

Since the weather is getting better, Im checking for Spring/Summer tyres. I'm thinking about either 30's or maybe try 32mm's. Pirelli or GP's, not sure about that one yet. Maybe 32mm in front and 30mm's in back?

I would like to join my first official race in July I've been training for. I read that the 32's could add more resistance at higher speeds. So I have no experience in races yet. I don't have the goal of winning (yet). I want to gain experience so I guess the 30 vs 32mm's would be less of an issue but Im not sure?

Info about me and the rides:

- male, 35 years, 83kg
- LT2 @ aprox 3.4 -3.6W/kg (FTP is about 3.7W/kg)
- 2 years of experience on road bike
- rides: mostly long zone 2/LT1 rides (think +120km per ride) or shorter intervals
- my goal races : Kermesse (Belgian kind of Criteriums but longer routes and duration, avg speed 40-44km/h - 25mph)
- wheels: rapid Roval CL III wheels with 21mm internal width
- tyres/inners: either gp5000 or pirelli p zero's with pirelli smarttube TPU's

Anyone can help a beginner out?

PC suddenly shut off, doesn't work anymore

Hi everyone,

In November 2023, I ordered parts to build a new PC. Until yesterday, the system worked perfectly.

Last night, while simply reading emails, the PC suddenly shut off. It briefly attempted to restart by itself a few times but never reached POST, and within 5–10 minutes it completely died. Since then, nothing happens anymore. The only unusual thing is that the passive RGB lighting on the motherboard still stays on.

So to be clear: I can't get into BIOS as it doesn't even POST.

Main components:

  • Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi II
  • CPU: Intel i7-14700K
  • PSU: MSI MPG A1000G PCIe5
  • SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
  • GPU: RTX 4080 MSI Suprim X
  • RAM: Patriot Memory Viper Venom 2x 16GB DDR5 7000Mhz
  • NZXT Kraken Elite RGB
  • Thermal Grizzly CPU Contact Frame

Today I tried a lot of troubleshooting:

  • Fully disconnected PSU power for 5+ minutes
  • Pressed CMOS reset button
  • Removed CMOS battery for 5 minutes
  • Replaced CMOS battery with new battery
  • Removed GPU and its power cable
  • Removed RAM and tested different slots (RAM LED lit up on motherboard when no RAM was installed so some kind of life?)
  • Disconnected all Molex/fan connections
  • Stripped system down to only ATX power and tested step by step by adding a connection but even with only ATX and CPU power cables, nothing happens
  • Removed and inspected CPU (looks physically fine)
  • Tried booting without CPU
  • Disconnected all front panel/USB/audio/fan headers to rule out shorts
  • Performed PSU paperclip test (PSU powers on, though I know this is limited testing)
  • Removed SSD and cleaned/checked motherboard covers
  • No burned smell or liquid on mobo (have watercooling)

None of this changed anything. My suspicion is now either the CPU, PSU, motherboard, or some combination of them.

Weird thing: When I let my PC connected to power, it sometimes suddenly tries to boot and shuts off again right at POST, at random.

Everything always ran at stock settings. No CPU overclocking, no GPU overclocking, no aggressive BIOS flashing, no heavy benchmarking or stress testing. Cooling was properly installed and overheating seems unlikely.

Unfortunately, I don’t have spare compatible parts (CPU/motherboard/PCIe Gen5 PSU) to swap for testing.

This is quite frustrating as I work in IT and can't seem to solve it. I've put some pictures of some of the tests/checks.

Anyone can suggest anything?

And yes, the CPU, mobo, PSU and SSD are still under warranty but want to try and solve it myself first. Perhaps I missed a clue.

Olivier

Buggy Route Creator?

Anyone else having issues with Strava's Route creation on their webpage? It constantly freezes /crashes and I can't drag the routes anymore. It's totally unusable for me.

Chrome on MacOS latest version, disabled all extensions and restarted browser.
