Progress on a monument.

Started this project almost exactly a year ago. Pictures from this weekend. 1st picture, marking high spots for removal to establish a flat plane. 2nd picture, pedestal showing nearly finished columns. 3rd picture, the marble inscription ready for last chasing pass. It will mount on the angled face. If I keep putting in an hour a night and get 8 hours per weekend, I might have it done in two weeks. I'm ready to move on.

Inscribed granite river rock

I carved new grand-nephew's name in a stone. Pinkish granite. Perhaps the hardest rock I've worked with.

Elegant drapery

A lovely stone, on a beautiful evening, a few miles north of Moundridge Kansas.

This week's project

I didn't make the bell, yoke, clapper, or uprights, but I designed, cut, welded, painted base for this bell from the 1880's.

I was granted absolute freedom with the design. I think it works with the form of the old castings and memorializes its history. 30 years doing the welding shop thing. Every once in a while, you get to build something that isn't a boring rectangle.

Trying to get to 400 characters...

What is your preferred source for G4 plastic parts?

My poor 07 Spyder got nailed by hail and the tail light lenses got shattered, clear plastic edging along the trunk, and the honeycomb plastic bit is mostly gone. Oh yeah, one of the fog lights is shattered too. (It does look something like a high-vis orange golf ball, but dealing with that is going to have to wait.)

Suppliers you recommend? Suppliers to steer clear of?
