Leave them in the yard!

After a lifetime being a little obsessed by stone carvings, European cathedrals etc, about 10 years ago I got to visit Carrara, where *that* marble comes from. Saw contemporary craftspeople at work. Got home, angle grinder on a river rock. Mallet & chisels. Truly awful result.

So I dumped it in the yard.

Now with the benefit of time, I'm quite tempted to leave it near some sacred site so folks will think it's a *good* Etruscan artifact.

Precautions when chiseling sandstone

Hi,

my gf wants to work sandstone a bit. Since it will cause silicon dust , are those precautions enough?

- use respirator (ffp2) while chiseling and cleaning up

- keep material wet

- do wet cleanup after, collecting the dust on a plastic foil cover like for painting

- just chiseling, no power tools, etc.

She will work on the balcony and the balcony will be used by other people like me and my daughter while she is not working.

Acceptable?

Labradorite carving

Carvings from Labrador stone are made to be more elegant and can be used as pendants. What do you think? Is this good if it is used as a pendant?

Work in progress - Public sculpture "Door" - progress so far

This is a 2 meter limestone sculpture, that I am currently working on. The special thing about it, is that it is being made entirely under the eyes of the public (mostly in the spot where it will later be displayed) using predominantly manual tools.

So far, I am close to finishing the front. I am sharing the process so far.

My first carving obsidian dolphin.

I’m considering trying to carve its eyes and blowhole. That would be very delicate work and another new experience too.

I collected some obsidian from a hill near my house and used my tile saw to start the basic shape before continuing on with a hand rotary /w diamond bits. It’s only polished up to 1000 # and I may leave it like that. It’s a Risso’s dolphin and I’ve included a wildlife shot at the end to see what I was going for.

What are these? Found at beach

Found amongst the rocks at a 'beach' / shoreline in Albany, bay area CA. They feel n sound like stone. At first I found the less defined n thought it was a naturally tumbled shell, then I saw the other one. There was no other faces near them, but surrounded by lil stones n shells, it was really high tide today. Please let me know, I've looked on Reddit & online but can't find anything. Thank you! I also haven't left as I feel like I should leave them where I found them but looking for any insight first. Thank you!

A hand I’ve been carving this week

Got mega lucky and found a bunch of marble mantle pieces at a salvage yard nearby. Such beautiful stone.
