Holy shit this game is great. Feels like playing a movie and delivers better on the genre of space opera than any other game I've played. It's such a well-calibrated game, challenge wise. From the get-go, it feels tense and the victories hard-won, but doable, and now that I'm working through all the planets on my third playthrough, I'm zippin and zappin missiles out of the sky and weaving under arches like it's nothin, but the game still doesn't feel *easy,* I'm just shooting for different goals. This sort of arcadey gameplay feels like a lost art these days, and it marries so well to this branched storytelling approach with a heavier focus on punchy dialogue than extended lore dumps and character beats. You start out as mercenaries that bicker constantly and end up as heroes that manage to make your differences work. Falco may be a bastard, but he's *our* bastard.
What's funny is that I'm fairly familiar with the characters from that Youtube series, which I've watched countless times, so I'm hitting all the fanservice memes in reverse. I'll hear like "I can't believe I've been beaten by this scum!" and be like "You didn't use Nova Bomb!"
Heard a ton of this music from Smash Bros, but these are the best mixes of em I've heard for sure. Digging Fichina and the Mission Accomplished theme the most.
Thought these characters were weird looking in the trailers, but now that I'm used to them, even weirdly-moist Slippy has become kinda cute to me.
I hope the old Star Fox veteran fans love this remake as much as I do. Now to join the chorus of people who lament the lack of a proper sequel.
Dearest Moderators: I accidentally posted my submission under [JUN25] here https://www.reddit.com/r/HyruleEngineering/comments/1ufwp15/comment/otyvnyw/?context=1&screen_view_count=1
Hoping it may still be counted as a contest submission
Make your own minigames and see where you can land with the Lunar Lander! Lean it back, and it lays into a slow, hovering, controlled descent, lean it forward and it rises into cruiser mode, where it pivots on a dime without sacrificing too much speed. The Lunar Lander's rear landing gear and its low center of gravity allow parking on slopes and its small footprint and high ground clearance get you safely touched down where many craft can't
This controls differently from most crafts. I wouldn't call it easy, but it is agile and a lot of fun. When leaned forward, the balloon catches heat from the flame emitter, which lifts the rear and orients the fans forward. In this position, cruising mode, leaning the craft left or right rapidly pivots the vehicle. If you hold forward, the balloon catches heat and the Lander climbs. To descend, just release the stick and choke the flame.
After a moment of descent, the balloon will fully deflate and the Lander will lay back into lander mode, aming its fans toward the earth and slowly descending you vertically. In this position, the control stick will pitch in the direction pressed, strafing you as you drop. Keep in mind that holding forward for too long will shift you back into cruising mode.
This seems like a lot, but it doesn't take long to figure out the basics. Lean forward to rise, lean back to drop. Fuck around and the rest makes itself clear.
Please note that you MUST have a proper shield equipped for this craft to operate properly. I built with a Large Zonaite shield equipped, but other shields may work as well, depending. Your shield is what allows you to choke the flame actuates the balloon. Without it, you will rise forever.
Because the craft puts you right next to a flame, I recommend you equip ~~your spacesuit~~ flame resistant gear or eat food that does the same. Otherwise, expect for the craft to help you cosplay Ghost Rider.
Protips:
Spin to win! When in cruiser mode, hold to a side for a full revolution to enter a spin that skids you out into hover mode. It's fun, stylish, and a surprisingly deft way to position over your destination.
When landing, don't hestitate to press B the moment you've found your position. When powered off, your landing gear will much more readily find purchase with the ground. On the other hand, with power on, you can slide iver the ground to taxi into position.
Be aware that the craft briefly stalls as it switches from hover to cruise mode. You'll lose altitude before you gain it back. When landing, it is almost always easier to approach from above. Remember, if you let the stick in neutral , you will slowly drop straight down.
You'll hear something detatch shortly after your first takeoff. It's just the golden apple burning. Pretend like it's not there and that I didn't needto add a useless part to save this craft for upload (everything else is at weird angles that require gravity nudging to position)
