Tarantula Hawk in LB backyard!
Okay so I live in the bixby knolls area and my parents and I were doing work out in our backyard and my mom screamed and said “WHAT THE HELL IS BEHIND YOU” and I turn around and see the biggest bug I’ve ever seen with a blue body and orange wings.
We were terrified, I had never seen anything like this in my backyard before and it was flying low right down by my leg. It flew away and I immediately searched google to find out what it was.
It turned out to be a tarantula hawk, native to deserts in North America. It hunts tarantulas. Brave wilderness even did a yt video of getting stung by it because it has the SECOND WORST STING in the insect kingdom.
Has anyone seen this in Long Beach?? Why is it here if they are native to deserts?
