Having bathroom remodeled. Some recent work has me questioning some previous work. I am hoping this is B+ quality or higher. Any major issues?

My contractor says it is fine to do this. He’s going to patch and paint it. I would think that you would just cut a piece and leave the end square. Am I off base?

My contractor says I need to be patient. This is first step. I am over reacting when I say it is unprofessional and I could do better myself.
