Indian student considering University of A Coruña – life in Galicia?

Hi everyone,

I'm an Indian software engineer and I'm considering applying for a master's program in HPC at the University of A Coruña next year.

As I have no friends or relatives living there in an around spain, I am worried about the transition and integration into this new one.

I wanted to ask a few questions about living in Galicia

are there many Indian students or professionals in A Coruña or nearby cities?

How welcoming is the city for international students?

Is it possible to manage daily life with basic Spanish while improving it over time, or is fluent Spanish necessary from the beginning?

How are the job opportunities for international graduates after completing a master's degree?

Would you recommend A Coruña as a good place to stay after graduation, or do most graduates move to cities like Madrid or Barcelona?

I'd really appreciate hearing from both locals and international students who have experience living or studying there.

Thank you very much!

How should I survive as a international student in a class with full of local spaniards?

I am 27 yo and I will be joining as an international student in a university spain where there are less than 5% international students in a class of approximately 32 students. Also, the age group I have searched for this course seems to have a huge age gap ranging from 26-38. So it's making me nervous how to work with them. I will be joining as a south east asian student. I am learning Spanish but still I am feeling overwhelmed about joining the university. I have researched the university and the course is great and that's why I want to go. It's within my budget.

This will be my first time going to another country with a new culture and language. I am an introvert and only open with my family and friends. It takes some time for me to open with new ones but i am helpful anytime. I WANT TO just focus on my studies, make good friends and DONT WANT to wander around and bother anyone.

I want tips and suggestions on how to not be isolated, work with everyone, being polite and to not be overwhelmed with the things around me.

The university is USC.

Beginner level spanish going for masters in spain. Post masters english language job opportunities in spain? Or should I apply to other European countries ?

I have considered a master program in spain which has mostly locals + around 6% international students for this program. I am learning Spanish as a beginner now. I am planning to do the masters next year in winter. Some subjects are in Spanish which are elective so can be managed, other subjects are mandatory in English which is good, overall i can complete my credits for the program.

The major concern is post completion of the program the job placements will probably be in Spanish, I have to apply to mnc or english speaking companies or apply to other european countries.

As this is the first time i will be traveling to another country, How should I tackle this ? The program is good and affordable. The weather is great. Daily talks I need to manage and make good friends.

Am I taking too high of a risk by leaving a mid-level software engineering role build enterprise apps to do a master's in HPC as future ready career? How difficult is the pivot from working on traditional CRUD apps to HPC ?

A bit of background about me.

“I have about 4 years of experience primarily working on traditional software development building enterprise apps. While the career path is stable now ( don't know if AI takes over), I find myself deeply interested in systems architecture, low-level optimization, and parallel computing. However, giving up a full-time income to go back to school feels like a massive investment. Is a Master's degree the right vehicle for this transition, or are there better ways to break into the industry? I'd love to hear from anyone working in HPC, climate modeling, quantitative finance, or scientific computing."

All I want is to future proof my career.

I want to pursue masters in HPC. Can I make it ?

Hi all,

Is this the right time for me to do a masters ? I have read that phd, researchers and math grads do this masters ? So do I have a chance ?

I am a 27 year old working as a software developer with now 4 years in the same company (and also my first company) in mostly building Fintech applications migration etc. I had done my bachelor in electronics engineering with 9.6 gpa and my core interests were in digital electronics and computer science.

Now that I am saving funds monthly, I am thinking of pursuing my masters in HPC as I see it as a future ready career. Seriously considering spain for my master's.

Want to pursue masters in HPC. Need your thoughts?

Hi all,

I am 27 years old indian working as a software developer with now 4 yoe in mostly building Fintech applications migration etc. I had done my bachelor in electronics engineering and my core interests were in digital electronics and computer science.

Now that I am saving funds monthly, I am thinking of pursuing my masters in HPC as I see it as the future in demand skill one should have in this agentic coding where the traditional software development major coding chunk is now getting offloaded to the ai agents. I only think this one case other than debugging and architecture which are core skills that these agents still not very good at. And diving into HPC would give me major skill in the heavy data computing era where more fast computing and efficient coding is needed to run these ai models and administrating. This would also give me an edge and break out of the traditional software development bubble. Am I thinking right this way ?

So I need your thoughts on whether i should pursue a masters in HPC, probably looking in spain as it's affordable and under CESGA ?
