Austin based fast casual chain, Torchy's Tacos has acquired all of Fred's Fish Fry 12 locations in San Antonio and plans on rebranding the iconic chain to a sustainable fish and locally sourced produce concept.

The news was first announced on Torchy's Tacos official myspace page, " We are thrilled to have aquired such an iconic brand," says Torchy's Tacos CEO Paul Macaluso. The buyout is alleged to be north of 100 million dollars but the exact amount is not known at this time.

When asked for a statement, Fred's Fish Fry spokesman, Cod Stewart said, "[ Alfredo] was tired of being mocked on social media about his business being a money laundering operation. He has had a successful run with the restaurant with over 60 years. It was time for him to sell and he looks forward to the new owners bringing their vision to a new audience."

Fred's Fish Fry has long been a source of jokes and memes in San Antonio. Reddit user VixxenFoxx quips, " you know it's good when there are zero cars in the parking lot. " Another redditor [ deleted] says, " you can order their special that comes with a side of

" math[ sic]."

Torchy's Tacos is no stranger to controversy as well. On many social media platforms it is applauded for it's " opening of triumph." However, Torchy's is committed to a rebrand. According to their official myspace page, they will no longer serve fried fish. Instead, they will serve locally sourced invasive species such as the armored catfish, blue Tilapia as well as Asian carp in a Baja California style Tacos. The combos will start at $ 34.99.
