Came into this concert completely uninitiated with this band and only knew Oteil with his association with Dead and Co and Kimock and Seals with their history with Ratdog / Other Ones / JGB etc. It did not take the place of a Dead show for me but my God what an incredible night of music. I would be shocked if any Dead and Co fan said it wasn’t for them. While it didn’t scratch my Dead itch 100%, I can’t tell you how good it felt to see Dead and Co and GD shirts in the crowd and to hear talented musicians who played with our idols and contributed to some great iterations of Dead music themselves. And to, by and large, be around ‘my people’ again. Thank you Oteil for a great night of music and people, don’t miss these guys if they come to or near your town!

I know the Colorado ‘23 shows are getting a lot of love as they should but I wanted to recommend a really underrated performance from Gillette ‘22 on its anniversary today.

It was a Saturday night stadium show that started off with Cumberland and Bertha before an hour long rain delay interrupted the night. Good Lovin’ usually follows Bertha so they stayed with that combo to open up a very long second set. It was a very lively performance especially towards the end. Bobby ad libbed John’s name into the lyrics ‘who needs it? who needs it John? a little good love…’ which got the crowd into it. As the song plays out its final verses you think they’re going to start landing the plane but you hear the drums slightly pick up the pace as Chimenti wails a few notes on the organ as if to say, game on, as the song picked up in an exhilarating, running a red light sorta way as the song finishes to a raucous close. The crowd was roaring.

Not everyone’s favorite song and I admit it’s not mine but this was just a fantastic performance. It effectively opened as a set opener due to the delay and it’s clear they brought a lot of energy to it especially after a rain delay. A lot of other great performances that night but if you haven’t listened to this one, give it a shot!

This has been my read: Voters approved a law giving the auditor authority to audit the Legislature. DiZoglio says that settles the matter. Legislative leaders argue that the Massachusetts Constitution's separation-of-powers provisions prevent such an audit regardless of what the statute says. The courts are being asked to decide which view is correct.

I just read an NYT article from last month that said this:

"They also point out that the Legislature already cooperates with an annual audit by an independent auditor, with results available online, and that the House has invited Ms. DiZoglio to select a firm to conduct the outside audit, an offer she has declined."

In response:

"Ms. DiZoglio says that the annual independent audit “cannot be truly independent,” because lawmakers “control the scope of what is audited and determine what’s off limits to review and report on.”

How do you guys view this? I'm a Democrat in the state and I see Republicans and MAGA all over this all the time. I simply see this as something who legality was always in question and now it's up to the courts to decide. The other side is using this as fodder everyday about corrupt Democrats covering up their misdeeds. I know DiZoglio is a Democrat but in that NYT article it mentioned she worked for a Republican state rep when she was younger, is taking money from Mike Minogue and other Republicans and generally seems to be delighting in / having a combative nature that is giving me pause about her motivations. How do you push back on Republicans who are making a stink about this?
