“Before the fever” song appreciation

I’ve always been a casual listener of Grimes, I like her more popular songs like genesis, oblivion, 4æm and kill v maim, I’ve also been obsessed with image and artificial angels recently.

I’ve started exploring more of her underground discography and this song is genuinely ethereal, my ears are blessed. If you haven’t listened to it, you should, it’s so underrated. I love her music, I’m so looking forward to her upcoming album!!

About the HADES movie

I’m honestly wondering how the movie is actually going to play out. Melanie has already stated that it’s a narrative movie and not a musical like K-12. So, what exactly is the narrative? Do we think the movie will pull anything from the music videos? Or will it follow the order of the storybook? Or will it be something completely different? Hell, will we even get the movie 😭

But yeah, I’m also curious about the aesthetics and visuals of the movie. I think Melanie tries to make her music accessible for all ages. For example, the K-12 movie can very much be enjoyed by any age range. But I’m actually hoping the HADES film will be a bit more mature. Not necessarily horror or anything but I’d love for it to at least be a bit more accessible for older people. Thoughts?

I’m also just worried about the storytelling in general. Although I love K-12 and often rewatch it for comfort, I think we can all agree that the storytelling is poorly told. Melanie says she writes the scripts herself…and it’s obvious 😬. Although I do understand that she had to cut out a lot of the script from K-12 due to the music, so maybe things will be different this time around. I just hope that she works with people that actually have experience in the acting world - a script writer could be a huge help. I wish her the best, I know creating something so huge comes with a lot of stress.

Melanie’s music saved my life

I know this title sounds dramatic, but I’m being utterly genuine when I say that Melanie Martinez’s music has saved me and been beside me during my hardest times. I’ve known of Mel since I was a little girl, and I’d often jazz to her music on YouTube. It wasn’t until PORTALS was released 3 years ago during a really rough time of my life that I became a diehard fan. Although it’s seemingly one of her least liked albums, it was (and continues to be) so important to me. I resonated deeply with songs like “VOID” and “POWDER”, it was like she understood me in ways that no other artist did. And I actually really loved the creature - having felt quite alien and left out all of my life I resonated very much with it.

I then rediscovered the rest of her discography and I absolutely fell in love. K-12 was my best friend in high school; I was the weird kid with no friends and so the whole movie really touched me. And of course, Crybaby, Afterschool and Hades hit very close to home too. It may seem like an exaggeration but Melanie is really like no other artist I have listened to. Her lyricism, world building and uniqueness is incomparable. I have tried for years to find another singer that fills the void (pun intended) but there just isn’t one for me. I’m so glad that I found her music, and I’ve found such great solace in it that I haven’t found anywhere else, so I’ll forever be thankful to her for that. I know people have a tendency to complain a lot on this subreddit so I thought I’d take a moment to appreciate Melanie and her beautiful work. I hope she never stops creating 🤍

First time sharing my poetry

I’ve never actually shared my poetry with anyone before. I tend to write free verse, and I write best when I’m sad so a lot of my poems tend to be pretty dark lol. Feel free to give helpful critiques if you wish.

Thoughts on a Karen spin-off game?

I love life is strange 2, it’s one of my favourite games. After playing a couple of times, it got me wondering more about Karen’s backstory. If Don’t Nod was ever to get their hands on lis again (because clearly square enix can’t be trusted) I would absolutely adore a prequel with Karen’s life as a teenager, just a short 3 episode thing similar to bts with Chloe. We know she grew up in a really religious family and didn’t have a great relationship with her parents, so I think she’d be a complex and interesting character to explore. Obviously I don’t expect it to actually ever happen lol, but it would be great in practise. What do you guys think? Is there any other spin off games you would want?

Lack of care for hygiene

Does anyone else with ADHD notice they only really care about hygiene when they have somewhere to be? I’ve realised I’m way more motivated to brush my teeth, floss, moisturise, etc. if I know I’m going out. But during holidays or weekends when I’m just at home, those things can end up getting neglected. Sometimes I even put off showering longer than I should.

I’m guessing it’s an executive dysfunction thing mixed with there being no sense of urgency, so my brain struggles to find the motivation to actually do it. Just wondering if anyone else relates, or if I’m just a dirty mf 😭
