MSc Biotechnology → What biotech roles should I target?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently doing my Master’s in Biotechnology, with a particular interest in molecular biology and bioinformatics. I also have a few short-term work research experiences.

For those working in the biotech/pharma industry:

  1. What roles are you currently doing, and what does your day-to-day work look like?

  2. Given a background in biotechnology + molecular biology/bioinformatics, what roles would you recommend I target?

  3. Which entry-level roles are relatively easier to get into after an MSc?

  4. How difficult was it for you to get your first proper industry job?

  5. What skills or experience helped you get hired?

I’d especially appreciate experiences from people in the UK/Europe. Also, if you could mention your degree, current role, years of experience, and how you got into the industry, that would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Moving closer to London after finishing university - looking for advice on East London areas m a international student

Im a international student recently finished my studies at a UK university and I’m planning to move closer to London.

The place I’m currently living in is quite sub urban, and I’ve been struggling to find part-time job opportunities because there aren’t many options around here.

I’m considering moving somewhere in or around East London, as I’ve heard there are more part-time job opportunities and better transport links. Some areas I’m looking at are Barking, Hornchurch, Upminster, Plashet, and nearby places.

I’d like to know what these areas are like in terms of:
● Safety and general atmosphere
● Transport connections into London
● Availability of shops, amenities, and things to do
● Whether they’re good places to live on a budget

I’ve heard mixed opinions about East London, so I’d appreciate honest opinions from people who live there or know the area well. I’d be moving with a friend, so any advice about which areas to consider or avoid would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Anyone who did a Master’s in the UK in 2023-2025? How are the job prospects?

Has anyone here completed a master’s in the UK during 2024 or 2025 as an international student? I’m particularly interested in people from science related fields. Were you able to find a visa sponsored job after graduation? How has your overall experience been regarding job opportunities and staying in the UK after your master’s?
