Pump cavitation

I have a 127 degree Celsius glycol system. This is a loop system where the glycol recirculates and then feeds into a tank where it is then pump back around. The pump is cavitating . The best efficiency point for the pump is 600 GPM which is 180 psig discharge pressure. But they are running at 300 gpm at 50 psig discharge pressure. The pump curve says it should be 190 psig. But the PCV holds it at 50. How are we so far off the curve and why are we cavitating

Residual dead grass, do I leave it (Indiana)

Hey guys, I’m a new homeowner in Indiana and left for town for about a week and came back and mowed my lawn at 2 inches and there was so much grass that was left over and I tried raking it up and then my neighbor told me I should try to mow over it again and that didn’t work because it’s still clumped. What do I do? Should I leave it? Should I try to pick it up? I’m scared.

Water Test: Sulfates in well water?

Hey guys,

I am renting a property with a well. And first time I ran the water, all the faucets smelled like sulfur. Rotten eggs. And my landlord then came over and put bleach down the well pipe that sticks above my grass (is there a better name?). We then immediately ran the faucets for about a half hour. I was afraid to drink the water because of the sulfur and now because of the Bleach. So I got this 16 in 1 test by AquaNox. Everything looks solid except MAYBE the sulfate line. The colors are really hard to see so I attached three pics and pray it is clear. Looks to me like 400-800 ppm range. But I may be seeing wrong.

I have a water softener. Though I don’t think that helps with sulfates. Also there is no H2S thank god but I’m shocked there is sulfates but no H2S. I haven’t looked into any reactions yet.

So

  1. How do I treat this sulfate

  2. Is this bad

  3. Can I drink it? I have already showered in it. Can I shower in it?

  4. I have a septic tank as well. That is where all the water drains to.

Let me know what else I need to answer. It’s my third day here. I don’t even know who to contact about this professionally. Who owns my well LOL.

I attached some photos to show the test I performed. It is a 16 in 1 test by AquaNox. I am a chemical engineer so I would love any scientific answers, but let’s also be practical.

Solvent leak isolation

Hey guys,

I am consulting for a plant that has a massive solvent network. And it isn’t flow tracked. They measure level in their tanks and have a PCV to maintain pressure in their respective header.

I was wondering if you guys had any experience you could share about a scenario where a solvent leak may occur. In order to detect and then shutdown this leak. To be clear they want to be able to stop a leak as soon as possible- AND make it automated. Frankly they will probably need to hedge their expectations. But let’s see!

Looking to hear about new and old tech and maybe some key instrumentation you think we may be missing.

I am also concerned about adding too much instrumentation because their network is so diverse and spread out- it would require so much instrumentation and PMs would be crazy. But sometimes that is the price to pay
