I have a question about bottle feeding
Where I work has llamas and occasionally we have to hand rear and bottle feed. We have written protocols on how to calculate amount per day, number of bottles, and a weaning schedule. But noting that says when you stop recalculating to amount to offer. We are told to weigh weekly to recalculate the amount offered based on weight and when to begin cutting numbers of bottles but not when to stop weighing/ adjusting the milk amount up. Every time we have a cria I eventually ask when can I stop increasing the amount offered. Each time my boss looks at me like it’s the first time and asks “how old are they? What do they weigh? Yeah you can probably stop.” Blame my ADHD but I hate that answer. Like, why can’t there be an established point or protocol. And whenever I search online for an answer I see the same info of how to calculate bottles and how to wean. So I’ve come here- can anyone tell me not when to wean but when to stop increasing amount offered in a day?
