Hard skills will take you only so far for jobs

Great experience and crazy projects will get you interview calls but you also need soft skills to get roles.

Like even if you use your technical skills to build a project but if you can’t explain what you built well enough you might be out.

Here are some things that can help

Practice speaking out loud. Stand in front of a mirror and explain your projects. Try explain what you built in 60 seconds. Explain in such a manner that even a non-technical person can understand what you say.

Mock interviews. Not just technical rounds. Behavioural interviews trip up a lot of professionals. You can practice with a friend, a senior, or record yourself answering. Hearing yourself is one of the fastest ways to improve.

Attend that random boring event scheduled at a Friday afternoon or smth. Like you can network there and connect on LinkedIn. You never know which random connection can help you out when needed

Tailor your written answers. Every application has questions like "Why this role?" or "What makes you a good fit for our engineering team?" Pasting the same answer everywhere is immediately obvious to anyone reading it. Like put in actual effort.

Like keep track of your applications don’t miss interviews or deadlines and stuff. Also always follow-up after interviews like even a short message would work.

Thinking about all this may be overwhelming at first but there are many free tools which can help you in this process.

What consumer problem do you think is still massively underserved in India?

We’ve seen startups solve payments, food delivery, ride-hailing, and quick commerce at scale.

But what consumer problem do you think is still massively underserved despite the number of apps and startups in the market?

Interested in hearing what problems people run into regularly that they feel nobody has solved properly yet.

How I started getting paid internships in my first year

Hello everyone, I am a first-year student

Never thought I’d be writing about this, but I guess here I am.

So, I applied for many internships and ended up with multiple paid roles somehow.

No Family Connections. No Crazy Network. But that’s not really the point of this post.

The point is that I started applying after seeing my friends applying for internships. I was completely clueless. Like literally I would forget the name of the company I was interviewing for or miss interviews altogether as I applied for literally all the companies on various portals.

It took time and lots of trial and error to understand the process. Its really not about talent or having a crazy profile. Its about catching on to a right method early on and presenting yourself with confidence.

One thing which helped was a chrome extension(WizHyre dot com). Got to know about it from a batchmate and it looks at your profile and the role you are applying for and gives tailor made answers related to that role.

Also if you are starting out and confused about internships like I was, don't be disheartened and keep pushing through you will get better over time.

Also If you want to ask any questions feel free to drop a comment. Happy to share what I have learnt.
