I really don’t see the point of the post from 4 days ago about being LGBT-friendly, especially on a subreddit based on an ethnic community.

I have no problem with LGBT people, but I don’t think it’s wise to mix ethnic activism with pride based on sexual orientation. We are an ethnic community, not a community defined by sexual identity. And what’s the point of calling ourselves ‘LGBT-friendly’ when Reddit’s basic rules already prohibit discrimination and harassment?

I found a video of the famous Roma orchestra led by Bakija Bakić in Vranje, but I can't determine the date it was filmed. Does anyone have any idea ?

The first Roma school was established in Kosovo. Do you think that referring to this people by their true ethnic name influences their social development?

Among Balkan Muslims, has there been a change in the way certain cultural practices are viewed as shirk, even though they were not considered that before, and has this trend accelerated over time?

The opinions of non-Muslims may also be interesting in explaining the reasons for this evolution among Muslims in the Balkans.

Salam alaykum everyone. I am a Roma from Kosovo and I’m wondering if learning Modern Standard Arabic will allow me to understand Iraqi Arabic directly without any problems or not ?

Some time ago I heard about the death of Sajeda Obeid and it really shook me. I discovered her about 6 years ago, and I always used to wonder why she felt so familiar to me even though I couldn’t understand anything she was saying.

Later I found out she was Iraqi, but also from the Dom ethnicity basically cousins of the Roma people in Europe.

May Allah be good to her.

Are there any Sinti, Kale, or Romanichal people here who have taken the MyHeritage DNA test and have genetic matches with Roma people from the Balkans and Eastern Europe?

For my part, I have genetic matches with people from all Romani groups.

>^(The MyHeritage test is not the best, but it is useful for finding genetic matches)

Did you know that among Roma in Albania and Kosovo, many strongly dislike the term “Gyps*”? Its Albanian equivalent, “Magjup,” come from an old Albanian dialect in Epirus, where it referred to Egyptians or Arabs. Today, the term is widely used in a discriminatory way against us.

I find it historically frustrating that this term exists almost exclusively in relation to Roma people, even though it has no real connection to their origins. Even those in the Balkans who identify as Egyptian Ashkali have no genuine link to Egypt; they have simply adopted that identity based on how they are perceived by Albanians, in order to better integrate.
