People are overreacting to build nerfs like they’ve never seen an ARPG before.

It’s honestly surprising to see people reacting to build nerfs like it’s some brand-new concept. In this genre, it’s completely natural for OP builds to get nerfed every season.

Especially with the Barbarian build in D4 this season—a build that basically makes you invincible was never going to survive. In a game like this, providing god-mode without any real trade-off is practically a "cheat" performance-wise. Sure, the fact that such a build was even possible is a flaw in their itemization design, but what game doesn't make mistakes? Balance patches exist specifically to fix those errors. And to be fair, they didn’t gut the build mid-season; they only pushed bug fixes and waited for the seasonal reset.

Other ARPGs are no different. Look at any game that just started a new season today—the most popular meta builds from the previous season always get nerfed to the point of being unusable. At least in this patch, they specifically targeted the "invincibility" of the Barbarian; the DPS for the Whirlwind build itself hasn't even been touched that significantly.

Is there any real chance Blizzard will ever increase their investment in Overwatch esports?

I’m a long-time Overwatch player and esports fan from South Korea. Please excuse any awkward phrasing as English isn't my first language.

It feels like Blizzard is extremely hesitant to spend money on the competitive scene, maybe because of some "PTSD" from the Overwatch League days. I’m not sure if it’s the lingering trauma of past failures or a shift in management strategy following the Microsoft acquisition, but the lack of support is killing the scene.

Currently, WDG (the organizer for the Korean region) is struggling significantly with funding. It’s been reported that the Korean casters and staff who traveled to Japan for the OWCS Finals had to stay in cheap capsule hotels for several days to cut costs.

The most serious issue, however, is the platform exclusivity deal in Korea. Most Korean players use a streaming platform called 'Chzzk' (which absorbed the majority of Twitch Korea’s streamers and viewers after Twitch exited the market). WDG, desperate for funding, had to look for an exclusivity deal.

Surprisingly, Chzzk showed zero interest in the OWCS broadcasting rights, despite hosting many Overwatch influencer tournaments. As a result, WDG signed an exclusive deal with a platform called 'SOOP' (formerly AfreecaTV). To give you some context, SOOP has a very poor reputation in Korea due to certain controversial content categories, though the management is known for investing heavily in esports.

Because of this, Overwatch fans are forced to move to a platform they dislike and rarely use just to watch the games. Under this exclusivity, there’s no influx of new viewers, and the community is slowly shrinking. This is the biggest grievance among Korean fans right now.

I love Overwatch and want the esports scene to grow, but the root cause of these issues is Blizzard's lack of financial support. While global channels stream on both Twitch and YouTube, the Korean scene is being suffocated by these local restrictions.

If this continues, we might lose offline stages entirely, or worse, the Asia region itself might become unsustainable. WDG has repeatedly voiced how difficult it is to keep things running. There are even rumors circulating in Korea that Overwatch services might be transferred to Nexon within the year. Many fans are actually hoping for this, praying that Nexon takes over the esports operations and ends the exclusivity so we can watch on any platform.

How do you guys feel about the current state of tournament operations? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

This might be a bit of a niche request, but I’d love to see more variety in the shop—specifically, Custom UI Skins.

Personally, I like hero skins, but since Overwatch is a first-person shooter, you rarely get to see your own skin unless you're in a Social Hub. I think the satisfaction is a bit lower compared to other games for that reason. I'm guessing that’s why Blizzard developed the Stadium, but as someone who frequently buys premium skins, I still feel like something is missing.

If we had Custom UI Skins, the impact would be immediate and constant. It feels way more valuable and "buy-worthy" than things like weapon charms or sprays, which honestly feel a bit meaningless at this point. What do you guys think? Even if they gave these out as free rewards instead of the usual filler items, I think the community satisfaction would be way higher than what we’re getting now.

This subreddit is way too harsh on tank players.

Looking at the overall reaction here, many people seem to believe that initiating tanks were far too strong. But from a tank player's perspective, the "Initiating" passive was simply the only one actually worth having.

To be honest, the knockback resistance passive currently on tanks like Reinhardt or Domina is barely noticeable—it might as well not exist. As for the "Bruiser" passive (headshot damage reduction), that’s something all tanks originally had before these sub-passives were even introduced. It doesn't feel like a buff at all.

The sweeping adjustment to the Initiating passive was unnecessarily cruel to dive tanks. People keep bringing up Hazard and D.Va because they’re seen as "meta," but if that was the issue, the devs should have just targeted them specifically. Instead, heroes like Doomfist, Wrecking Ball, and Winston—who weren't even in a great spot to begin with—got caught in the crossfire and nerfed.

They say they’re worried about the lack of tank players, but constantly pushing for this kind of "downward balancing" isn't going to help. It might not bring new players in, but it’ll definitely drive the remaining ones away.

It feels like the Tank role is being progressively nerfed into the ground

If Hazard is overperforming, they should have just nerfed Hazard’s individual kit. I honestly don’t understand the logic behind applying a blanket nerf to the entire Tank passive. Even now, Tank is the least played role—why are they being so harsh on us? If they can’t find a way to increase the Tank player base, they should at least stop making patches that actively drive them away
