I’m using the pants in photo 4 as outfit inspiration for a special concert I’m going to at the end of the month. The original pants are $85+ secondhand, so I was thrilled to find similar pants in photos 1 & 2 at my local thrift store for $4.50. They just need a little more personality.

My idea is to sew this 1.5" black and white checker trim onto the outside seam of each leg (also shown in photos 1 & 2). The problem is that the trim/ribbon I fell in love with seems to actually be intended for belts or bag straps (link included for reference). I haven’t purchased it yet because I’m trying to figure out if this is even realistic first.

Would it be possible to hand sew something like this onto pants without absolutely destroying my hands (or needles)? Or should I ditch this idea and look for a different type of trim entirely?

Am I overthinking this and should I go for it? Any special thread or needles I should get? Any pointers?

One thing that may be relevant: I found an older post here about adding tuxedo-style trim to dress pants, and a few people suggested using adhesive striping/tape to temporarily hold the trim in place while hand sewing it over the seam, which is probably how I’d approach this, if possible.

Any advice before I commit would be appreciated! Link to trim in photo
