Tidal new UI is sh*t

Hey, this isn’t so much a request for support as it is user feedback—a sentiment widely shared among my friends and family these days.

I’m extremely disappointed with Tidal’s new design. As a loyal user for years, I was initially pleased a few months ago to see Tidal transform into a more modern and streamlined interface while retaining its visual identity.

However, for about a month now—first on PC, then on mobile—the platform has completely adopted Spotify’s graphical elements and interactions: the “+” to add a track to favorites, which turns into a “✓” once added (just like on Spotify); a “lyrics” button; the display of lyrics, the various other buttons and their layout, the presentation of the current track, and even the shape of the graphic elements…

This “Spotify-ization” is very disappointing.

The most disappointing aspect is the prominence given to the audio format on the playback page. Whereas it previously occupied a central position in the graphic layout—with a color associated with each codec and a dedicated box—it is now relegated to the background: below the timeline bar, transparent, and “colorless.”

This is all the more problematic given that this indication of the audio format is at the heart of Tidal’s messaging, as the service aims to offer the best streaming audio format among its competitors. It makes no sense to relegate such an element when it is the main marketing selling point.

Finally, regarding the bug, this codec indicator disappears when you switch to another app (without closing Tidal), but reappears when you return to Tidal.

In short, while some are celebrating a “good alternative” to Spotify, I see this as a specific criticism from those who were loyal to the platform for what it offered; the semi-professional and high-quality aspect is being sacrificed in favor of mass-market marketing.

Hello wifi community!

A few years ago, I managed to "bypass" a Wi-Fi repeater to connect to a router even though my PC was blacklisted from internet access.

As a beginner in the IT field but naturally curious, I’m sharing this anecdote so you might shed some light on the technical reasons behind this "exploit," in more or less detail.

My PC could connect to my LiveBox (router), but it was configured to deny me access to the internet (most likely via my MAC address?). I frequently used my Wi-Fi repeater to connect to the router.

However, I discovered by accident that when I initiated the Wi-Fi connection from my PC to my repeater, and then unplugged the repeater during this connection process (while the Windows loading dots were spinning to signify the connection attempt), and then plugged the repeater back in relatively quickly, I could connect to the Box and then have access to the internet.

It is important to specify that this trick only worked with this specific repeater (which otherwise seemed quite standard) and not with another one of the same type under the same conditions.

This trick stopped working the day I accidentally unplugged the Wi-Fi repeater too late, once the PC had finally directly connected to the repeater.

Several questions then:

  1. Do you have any idea why this manipulation allowed me to trick the LiveBox? Could you try to explain it to me?
  2. Why did this manipulation work, even though I had previously connected in a standard way with that same Wi-Fi repeater under the same conditions? Wouldn't the LiveBox have already "flagged" me?
  3. Finally, why did this trick stop working once the connection was established normally?

A big thank you to those who willl take time to read and reply! :)
