Can (and should) I skip the garlic Jr filler episodes that were done so the manga could catch up or whatever?

Yeah so I did some kick googling and find out that the whole garlic jr thing isn’t canon and was filler so the manga could catch up or somthing like that?

I cannot stand the idea that what I’m watching isn’t a continuation of the story. Can I and should I skip it? I mean there can’t be any meaningful Character development right?

This is the second time I got to hear this and the only way I’ve ever been able to trigger this dialogue is by leaving the reverend Swanson mission as the absolute last one for chapter 2… and both times the dialogue is incomplete, with Dutch not answering where the gang was suppose to go.

This is obviously after the shootout in valentine which is usually the last mission (in chapter 2) players get from my understanding.
