Fans taking members statements at face value

Something I've noticed within this fandom is how so many fans take what the members say as law.

I'll site an example I've seen. I once shared an unpopular option that Suga should explore more solo work and he might shine more as a soloist. It's just an option, I enjoy his solo music . I enjoy his parts in the group but it's not the same as his own tracks. Someone then replied to me saying that I wanted to separate BTS, etc ect which is expected but what I found odd was this person said Suga himself said his only goal is BTS and and he would never want to pursue a solo career over the group.

Now, this is smth I've noticed sooo often where fans take statements the members say in interviews and they use it in rebuttals, as though its a law set in stone and anything anyone says that contradicts that statement has bad intentions.

Now I don't have the power to separate BTS, and I don't want to either. But if an idol on camera is asked about their future plans or if they wanna say in their not gonna say no, I want to leave. It's not about what the members say but how it's being intepreted by fans.

It's not always smth as controversial as this, not that I think this is controversial but you know what I mean. There's also really silky small staments or remarks the guys will pass which will be taken so seriously and at face value. I'm not saying everything they say on camera is fake but I'm not going to assume that this is a deep innate well thought statement, mutually agreed and signed off by the group and bang pd. I suppose it is a variant of parasocial behaviour

Has anyone else seen this happen at different instances.

Sonam Kapoor IS an Icon, she is THAT girl, and my guilty pleasure celeb.

https://preview.redd.it/xdfbdvu4rcjh1.png?width=558&format=png&auto=webp&s=50ff5b6ab64a527a3165763ff042bd636e5e0141

I too followed the hate wagon on her for a long time, but when I decided to form my own opinion, I realised I love Sonam Kapoor. I love how unfiltered and unhinged she is. Some things that she's said in interviews do sound insane, like her woo-hoo to Kareena's ignorance on feminism or shaming other actors. I won't defend that.

First of all, the women in this country do not give her flowers for how many girl's night movies she's given us. Aisha, I hate love stories, Khoobsoorat, Veere di Wedding, etc

She's unintentionally hilarious on so many instances. like her not understanding why she's privileged despite Rajkumar Rao explaining it to her repeatedly.

or in that press conference where she calls out men for that gelled up hairstyle and how it's soo over, and the camera zooms into Ayushman Khurana WITH THAT SAME HAIR.

Or and my favourite, when an interviewer asked her about Kagana Ranaut's statements when she was bashing the industry. and Sonam goes "what has she said? I love Kangana, she's always saying things"😭🤚

Honestly, if she were a Hollywood celebrity she would be loved by the internet, people would be calling her and unhinged Diva. In fact, there are celebs like her in Hollywood that do and get loved by the public.

I know I know she's a nepobaby, but she's far better than the ones we have today, She's never tried to make herself appear relatable or seedhi sadhi like Sara etc, she's always just been Sonam Kapoor. and when she was acting, she played her roles well, her girl next door characters were especially memorable. And I don't think she deserves as much hate as she gets.

Edit: I forgot to mention her activities outside of acting, like in fashion and home decor. She's been a constant promoter of Indian maximalism, and her AD episodes are something I find quite interesting. So if anyone's interested in the same do share your thoughts!

a criticism of song pacing (not sure of the technical term) and lyrics.

Edit: I know there's not enough attacks for me to address this yet but I don't want to wait till it gets there. this is a subjective take, very much so, which is why im expressing it in a neutral sub. You may not feel the same, you may disagree. you can scroll away, or you can share your contrary view because I do enjoy a discussion. But please remember to be civil and respectful, not just in your response but also with other commentors. Carry your demeanour with the same civility you would if you were conversing with a person in real life. Thank you to those who have been respectful.

Pacing thing:

Something I've noticed a lot in songs post folklore era is sometimes it feels like there's too many words in a verse that it sounds like she's rushing through the lyrics to catch up with the next beat. I know the song is structured that way but it's not quite singing or rapping and it just sort of awkwardly sit in between. IDK if I'm making sense so i'll provide examples:

  1. Bejewelled: "didnt notice you walking all over my peace of mind intheshoesigaveasapresent"
  2. evermore: "andwhenIwasshipwrecked I thought of you"
  3. father figure: "youtrhoughtlesambiTION, sparked theIgniTION..."

these are some examples I can think of on the top of my head. has anyone else felt this were it kinda throws you off and I feel like I've heard this in enough songs now that they all start to sound the same

Lyrics:

A lot of lyrics as well seem unnecessarily wordy; I felt this especially in TTP like the album was trying very hard to live up to the Poet part of its name. That bridge from father figure is an example, im not gonna take TLOASG as examples for this because that entire album was lyrically revolting for me. So ill stick to the albums prior.

I once so a tweet were someone joked that TS lyrics are like "you made a mess and I was the janitor" im sure some of you may have come across that, I found it funny and scary cuz I could actually think of sons I liked which had lyrics like that:

My eyes leak acid rain (Happiness) Salt streams from my eyes (Bigger than the whole sky)

You deserve prison but you won't get time (TSMWEL) I feel this is the embodiment of that tweet.

entire bridge of guilty as sin, although nice to hear, I feel like the religious imagery was a bit overdone:

What if the way you hold me
Is actually what's holy?
If long suffering propriety
Is what they want from me
They don't know how you've haunted me
So stunningly
I choose you and me
... Religiously

I can think of more examples, but this post would get too long, and I'd like to hear your thoughts and examples as well. TTPD grew on me but some of the lyrics in that as well as the other albums sounds a little too similar to the poetry I wrote in middleschool, which at the time I thought was really good but now....So even when I like the song these things sorta throw me off.

I'd love to hear your thoughts as well on this.

This sub has become a snark subreddit

It's not criticism anymore people just come on here and make up stuff about groups or idols they don't like way too much generalisation. Posts are made straight up hating idols over plain speculation. No nuance no breakdown of a particular problematic behaviour, no deconstruction if why a song or album isn't good.

It's all just unreasonable snark. Snark is usually delusional hate taking things out of context, focusing on superficial things. That's what this sub has become. There needs to be proper mods and rules.

Edit: I feel like there's comments here quite literally proving my point. There's commentors here that really do want to justify hate, and ive noticed and increasing number of posts after I posted this with people justifying this behaviour. I listen to Kpop because I enjoy the music. I'm not a devoted stan of any group and would never defend an idol with my life. even without mentioning groups there's people here assuming im talking about the groups they dislike. I like nuanced discussion and criticism and those are the spaces i want to be in. the logical thing to do is to remove this sub from my algorithm and Im going to lead by example and do that. im gonna leave this post here for anyone else that feels the same way.

P.S: i don't like to be misunderstood as there is a comment here that dismissed my arguments because my profile is new, i did have another account which i deleted in the process of being on a no social media phase. I couldve ignored it but im human too and don't like being speculated about.

for those that resonated with this post i hope we can all find healthy spaces where you can discuss things you like and dont like with civility. 💗

BTS not participating in the Grammy's is something I secretly rooted for since I started listening to them

For context I only properly got into KPOP in 2024 and naturally started with BTS. I had heard of them in 2018 but didn't really get into it until later. within that year I properly got a grasp of BTS's influence both domestically and international and felt that they were much bigger than western media portrays them to be.

I always saw them in interviews expressing that Grammy's were the next stop and I'm not gonna like it kind of made me feel a combination of cringe and shock. Because I felt like the biggest group in the world themselves did not grasp how big they were. This feeling doubled down when I saw the Netflix Documentary, and I believe it was Nicole Kim who was pushing for English Lyrics while the members wanted to do more Korean ones, and she said something about how they would lose global reach and I was like LADY!?!?! BTS had fans when they were doing mostly Korean stuff, even new fans get in through Dynamite and stay for Dionysus.

It doesn't matter what the ratio of Korean to English is as long as it's BTS. They already have global reach. For more context, I don't measure an artist's popularity through American standards and billboards and stuff. I know BTS is a global phenomenon because I could go to the outskirts in my country and ask about Drake, Taylor Swift etc and people wouldn't know them, but thy will have heard of BTS. This is by no means to diss other artists but that's just the truth of their influence.

So, I never really understood why they or their team felt that the Grammy's were the ultimate milestone. I always wished they took a move like this that cemented their positions as greater than, not just for themselves but this helps other artists not to be bound by limitations imposed by the west. Apparently this Asian POP category was only going to cater to C, K, J Pop, like what about artists from India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, persian artists? all these countries are in Asia too, most of which are musical centres themselves.

I wish their team understood just how big of a group they have. I'm not tryma glaze BTS, like I said i only properly got into kpop in 2024, but I knew of them in 2018 because they were a big deal Internationally even then.
