The situation is this. I follow the black line which is driving on this road with two lanes going in the same direction. I enter the left-turn lane at the last grassy median (the green circle) before the traffic light/intersection. The traffic light/intersection I’m referring to is at the bottom of the photo.

What I see all the time is that drivers will change lanes at the top of the photo and essentially ride in the turn lane for the school there, but, rather than turning into said school, they continue on, eventually landing in the left turn lane that I’m getting into at the green circle.

I enter the turn lane for the traffic light/intersection at the green circle because I don’t want there to be any confusion that I’m trying to turn into the school. I feel I don’t have any reason to be in the lane prior to the school turn lane if I’m turning at the traffic light/intersection.

What’s the correct or the best way here?

Note: These “turn lanes” do not have any arrows. The lane before the left-turn into the school doesn’t have any signs or arrows. The left-turn lane at the intersection also doesn’t have arrows. There is a sign on the traffic light that mentions “left turn yield on green.” Also, next to each median is a solid white line that stops at the entrance to the school and then continues at the last median.
