Weird shell

I ordered some more variety food for my little guys and this thing came in the package with it and I’ve never seen one before I know it’s some sort of shell but I wanted to see if yall have used them before.

I have a question I just thought about. I put an eggshell with some yolk left in it, and they’re eating it—but it looks like they’re eating the smooth outside part. How are they able to do that? Like I mean I could understand if they were pinching the edge of where it’s broke.
