Euroleague Grand Final: Trey Lyles vs Sasha Vezenkov - Lyles won the stat battle, Sasha lifted the trophy.

I've made a couple of posts now (1, 2) about how ex-Kings players are doing in the EuroLeague this season, so I thought to give one final update in that "series".

Vezenkov eventually won his second Regular Season MVP like 3 weeks ago. Vezenkov's team (Olympiacos) secured a Final Four spot by beating an injury-filled Monaco team 3-0 in the playoffs. Vezenkov went 17-5-1.7 in that series, playing significantly less minutes than usual (23' vs 28') due to the series being easy.

Trey Lyles' Real Madrid beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1 in the playoffs, with Trey going 11.2/4.8/1.5 in the playoffs. Real Madrid lost Edy Tavares and Alex Len to injuries during the series, but Trey stepped up as a five providing crucial rebounding and scoring when it mattered.

Real Madrid came into the Final Four missing two of their 3 centers (Edy Tavares, and Alex Len), and during the last couple of minutes of an easy semi-final they also lost their third center, Usman Garuba, to an Achilles injury. Trey went 17-7-1 in the semis to help Real Madrid reach the final, but was assigned the center position for the Grand Final out of neccessity.

Olympiacos had an easy semi-final, winning 79-61 against Fenerbahce, with Vezenkov only needing to play 22 minutes, scoring 16-5-1, fourteen of his points coming in the third quarter, while he didn't play in the fourth.

In the grand final, Trey seemed like he won the ex-Kings Forwards fight, scoring 21 points in the first half, while Sasha was at 6 points.

In the end, Sasha scored 12 (3/7 2FG, 1/1 3FG, 3/4FT, 4Reb), Lyles finished with 24 (4/8 2FG, 5/6 3FG, 1/2 FT, 8 Reb, 1 assist), and Sasha's Olympiacos lifted the EuroLeague trophy with Evan Fournier (20-5-4) as this Final Four's MVP. Final score: Olympiacos 92 - Real Madrid 85.

Rookie Final Four players that will be in Athens

Going by registered rosters according to euroleaguebasketball.net during a whole season. So, for example, Zagars or Birsen are not considered rookies even tho they weren't in the 12-man roster last year. They've got "EuroLeague Champion" in their resume and it counts.

And by extension, players you haven't heard before like Grinvalds, and Talcis from this year also count.

OLYMPIACOS

  • Frank Ntilikina

  • Monte Morris

  • Cory Joseph

  • Tyson Ward

  • Tyrique Jones

FENERBAHCE

  • Talen Horton-Tucker

  • Brandon Boston Jr.

  • Onuralp Bitim

  • Mikael Jantunen

  • Armando Bacot Jr.

  • Chris Silva

REAL MADRID

  • Theo Maledon

  • Andres Feliz

  • Trey Lyles

  • David Kramer

  • Gabriele Procida

  • Izan Almansa

  • Gunars Grinvalds

  • Egor Ammosov

  • Chuma Okeke

  • Alex Len

  • Usman Garuba

VALENCIA

  • Brancou Badio

  • Josep Puerto

  • Sergio De Larrea

  • Xabi Lopez-Arostegui

  • Jean Montero

  • Omari Moore

  • Darius Thompson

  • Tomas Talcis

  • Isaac Nogues

  • Alex Blanco

  • Kameron Taylor

  • Nathan Reuvers

  • Braxton Key

  • Jorge Carot

  • Jaime Pradilla

  • Neal Sako

  • Matthew Costello

  • Yankuba Sima

Olympiacos - 5 players

Fenerbache - 6 players

Real Madrid - 11 players

Valencia - 18 players, the entire roster

Players that have been registered in a previous Final Four but never made the 12-man roster: Zagars, Birsen. I think it's only them.
