Beginner confused about Apple device support

Hello!

Android developer here who's looking to get into iOS development. I'm considering buying an M1 or M4 Mac mini, but I'm trying to understand how the hardware/software support cycle works on macOS.

From what I've read, eventually an older Mac stops supporting the latest macOS, which means it also stops supporting newer versions of Xcode. Is that correct?

More importantly, does this eventually mean that you're forced to buy a newer Mac in order to continue publishing new apps/updates to the App Store? Or is there some way to keep using an older Xcode/Mac indefinitely?

I'm asking because I'm considering an M1 Mac mini as a relatively cheap way to get started. However, I've seen people say that M1 Macs may become problematic for iOS development in 2–3 years, whereas an M4 should have several more years of support.

Would you opt for an M1, to save money, or opt for an M4 for longer support? I am concerned about how long I can realistically expected to develop, build and publish before the Mac itself becomes an issue.

No fill with GMA Next Gen SDK (Android)

I created an app using gma next gen and it was working fine in production. Later I wanted to test mediation with a custom third party so I found myself switching to the old sdk. For whatever reason it performed horribly so now I've switched back to the next gen sdk again.

The issue is that even though my test ads work both on the debug and release build but for some reason my ad units have stopped working. From the logs I can only tell that every time one attempts to load it return a no fill. It's been like that for a couple of days. I've got a Rewarded and Native unit.

Anyone that knows what the issue might be?

Could you help me figure out if this strategy is adequate for my app?

Hello everyone!

I'd like some help from people that have a good amount of experience with Admob or using ads in general. I have recently released my first app, which is a simple analytics tool for a game (basically it provides players and global stats, the ability to track your account and supports some colorful themes, other than the basic light and dark ones. It was inspired by something like op.gg)

My current strategy is based on another similar mobile app but from other posts in this subreddit I can tell that it is a somewhat common strategy. Basically I have all global stats and leaderboards cached so I serve them without ads but if a user were to request a player profile then I prompt them with a dialog asking if they wish to watch a longer ad or not:

  • If they choose no, then I show them an interstitial and grant them 10 mins without ads which they can see in the drawer menu. Additionally, there is also a "no hide" option so that the next time they won't be prompted and will just watch the interstitial directly (it can be switched to the normal prompt behaviour tho).
  • if they choose yes, then they will watch a rewarded ad and gain 12h without ads.

Having an ad shield on grants access to the other colorful themes. Naturally there is also an option to buy the removal of ads forever.

I would really appreciate any kind of feedback!

Next-Gen Admob SDK and Yandex

Hello, I've recently learned about AdMob mediation and wanted to integrate the Yandex network for my russian user base. I've followed the instructions on https://ads.yandex.com/helpcenter/en/dev/android/admob-third and the docs for the next-gen AdMob. To test if it worked I've started using my production app and units ids (with a test device) and downloaded different russian vpns. I keep getting this in the logcat:

Yandex Mobile Ads SDK interstitial ad before it finished loading.

I am wondering if anyone has managed to perform this type of integration or something similar. If this is not the right place to ask, I'd appreciate if you could redirect me to a more appropriate subreddit.

Testing Back on a Pixel 7a Android 17

Hello, I have an analytics app for the mobile game Brawl Stars that needs to be tested for 14 days. If you don't play/know the game, just using the leaderboards to find players and browse around should be enough, otherwise use it like you would.

Join the google group: https://groups.google.com/g/starrlog-testers

Join the test group (you can download from here): https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.rohanito.starrlog

Will test back so share yours below if you need

I built a new Brawl Stars stat tracker (StarrLog). Giving free Lifetime Premium to the first 20 testers.

https://reddit.com/link/1v4ig1o/video/b52m4ji2zzeh1/player

I made it because I wanted an app to track stats for my games similar to how Brawl Stats was before it stopped being maintained. It's a new Android app that pulls live player data, brawler stats, and season analytics. What do you guys think of it? Any feedback is appreciated and if you have any questions I can answer both in the comments or messages.

I am currently looking for testers. Because Google requires closed testing (2 weeks of testers using the app) for new Android apps, I am giving Free Lifetime Premium (No Ads even when the app is released on the play store) to the first 20 people who help me test it before the public launch.

How to get early access:

  1. Join the whitelist google group: https://groups.google.com/g/starrlog-testers
  2. Claim your testing slot: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.rohanito.starrlog
  3. To claim the premium you can either send me a message with the screenshots where you opted-in or installed the app here on Reddit or you can join the Discord and send them in the claim-premium channel: https://discord.gg/wmfYeqQMtV
