How much are people leaving in their checking account between paydays?

I get paid once a month, on the last working day of each month.

Money goes to bills, cc debt, personal loan, and savings. I try to keep ~$1000 in my checking account until the next pay day but I also want to be paying off debt more aggressively…

So just wanted to take a poll in this group, how much are you leaving in your checking account after you pay bills/debt/etc to leave in there until the following payday?

Does it get easier?

Currently sobbing because the sweet baby foster dog that my partner and I have had for the last 8 months got adopted. She was our first foster but I didn’t realize it would hurt this much to give her up.

We already had a cat and a dog and while we went back and forth about whether we should keep our foster girl, we ultimately decided it was best for our babies if we didn’t. She’s gone to an amazing home where she will be spoiled and loved and adored but we are just heartbroken without her here. It feels like a member of the family is missing and I’m feeling like my emotions of missing her are clouding my judgment and making me think we should’ve kept her. Not that it’s an option at this point anyway, she is in a wonderful new home as of this afternoon. I just miss her so much and it doesn’t feel like this will ever get better.

Anyone else just feel hopeless in this job market and about ever making enough to live on (let alone do anything fun)?

I’m in a negative nancy headspace at the moment and just got a decline email from a job I had a first round interview for where the hiring manager told me “I was a strong fit”

It’s just depressing out here watching people I know on LinkedIn get promoted or be in great jobs making 2-3x what I make and I’m jealous and feeling stuck and bummed out

I’m in therapy, I’m job searching in a tough market, I know comparison is the thief of joy, etc etc but in this post, I’m really just seeking community that sometimes other people feel like this

Transitioning from fundraising to sales

32F, 100k salary
Have spent nearly 10 years in fundraising and considering a switch to sales since what I’m told is earning potential is significantly higher and I think my skills would be transferrable

Question is…are there sales jobs that aren’t tear your hair out stressful? I’m a hard worker and I have no trouble making cold calls but the economy is in a weird spot right now and I’m genuinely wondering if it’s possible to have a sales job without being stressed 100% of the time about meeting a quota.

Im used to metrics and normally exceed them but if I don’t hit a metric one month I’m not losing sleep/worried about getting fired immediately. Fear about the sales life being that way is what’s prevented me from making the switch so would love to hear your experience, advice, red flags, anything

Changing career paths

I’m 32 and have been working in one field for my entire career. I know the job market isn’t great right now, but that isn’t what I’m seeking advice about

I’m hoping to hear your story about changing your career even if/when you felt like it might be too late, logically I know people career shift all the time but I’d love to hear your real life example

Anything you absolutely need to bring with? (First timer)

Heading to Hawaii next week for the first time with my husband on our honeymoon, yay! Staying on Maui and Oahu

Just wondering if there’s anything we need to bring with us that people just constantly forget or wish they had brought/known to bring on their first trip? I hope that question makes sense 🫣

Basically, is there anything experienced people would recommend we definitely remember to pack?

TIA and soooooooo excited for this trip
