Generated 16k Revenue From Reddit

Let me share a story I shared in another subreddit. I think this is a much better subreddit for it.

So this year I started working for a UK-based company in a marketing role. l'm a young guy from Harare, Zimbabwe, so the salary they offered was $700 a month, and they said they would review it every two months and increase it if they saw progress, which actually was a good offer.

What they didn’t mention was that I was basically the only person in marketing. They really didn’t have a marketing side of things except SEO, which is how they got clients. But they barely got clients, they had only landed around 3 clients in 6 months.

Their product is high ticket though, around $2k–$3k per client, and the majority of that is profit. I came in and in the first month brought in 3 projects, which was around $7k in revenue. Mind you, I was the only one doing marketing. I had no budget for anything, and I wasn’t given any material either. I had to scrape together what I could and create something out of nothing.

I was coming up with marketing strategies left and right, and we would get clients, but on their end things weren’t well supported, so some of these opportunities never reached their full potential.

Just last month we generated $16k in revenue from Reddit and other marketing strategies, and I got paid $500 because they said they needed to pay for other stuff, so I would only be getting $500.

I honestly feel like I’m being used. I could probably negotiate a better deal, but I also feel like I’d get screwed over eventually. This whole thing is draining me, and I want to leave, but I can’t find other opportunities despite having actual proof that I can take over the marketing side of a business and create something out of nothing.

Just wanted to know what y’all think. Am I being used, or am I acting entitled? Also, I’d happily accept any opportunities.

Did I Make the Right Choice Quitting? "i will not promote"

So I’m a young guy from a 3rd world country, and I have been doing everything related to digital marketing for over 4 years now. I’ve tested so many ways of marketing on the internet that I probably invented a strategy at this point.

But on a serious note, this year I started working for a UK-based startup company. My role was coming up with marketing ideas and executing them since I’m very creative when it comes to finding marketing angles. They needed someone who could come in and give them “new” revenue models. I put “new” in quotes because they didn’t really have any in the first place.

The company sells high-ticket services where every customer is worth around $2k–$5k. Before me, they were getting maybe 1–2 projects every 3 months, but they were also just starting out.

I joined this year, and last month we managed to generate $16k in revenue. That’s with customers only paying a 75% down payment, so it probably did more than that. The majority of it is profit too since it’s service-based.

From that, I only earned $500, which is my base salary.

It’s not like the leads came from somewhere else either, I did all the work. I basically created this from thin air. There was no marketing material, no background on what the brand does, and no support of any kind. I had to learn everything by myself and find clients for a business with almost no content or structure. It was basically, we need customers, figure it out.

I should also mention I’m the only person in marketing. They only recently hired a couple of assistants and a website guy.

I know I’m from a 3rd world country, but I honestly feel like my efforts are not being appreciated or even properly supported. I’m not given much to work with, and some of my ideas aren’t well executed on their end. The sad part is, if I had more support and resources, I genuinely believe I could’ve done even more.

Yes, I talked to them about a raise, and they said as revenue grows they’ll start doing that.

I just came here to get insight from startup owners and see whether this is fair or not. I took this job because it’s what I had at the time, but if I found something better, I could honestly quit.

Any advice or opportunities would be highly appreciated.

l Made The Decision to Leave Zim

I made a post on another account about contemplating moving abroad or staying in Zim. For those who didn’t see it, here’s a quick backstory. I’m a young guy in my very early 20s starting to make a six-figure income online. So I wasn’t sure if I should move because I love home. That’s all I know, and I’m comfortable here. Plus, I wanted to be an inspiration for the youth because I always felt like if you move, you won’t have much impact. But on the foreign side of things, I would get a better quality of life and no taxes.

Recently, ZIMRA said they want to target online earners, and at my income level I would definitely get taxed upwards of 40%. This has been my final straw. I can’t get taxed 100% on cars and then pay another 40%. That’s basically working for them. Anyways, I made my decision to move because of this. Could I have overreacted? Maybe there’s a way to lower this, or maybe I made the right decision.

I'm Finally Able to Recall My Dreams

I was never the type of person who could recall dreams, to the point where for a long time I thought I didn’t dream at all. But I saw somewhere that we actually do dream, we just forget them. This was never really a problem for me, why would I care about remembering dreams? The problem was that, although not connected, I started having really poor memory when I got into my mid years. It started with forgetting keys and wallets, and I’d joke about getting old. I thought it was pretty normal. But things actually got bad. I struggled to remember important dates. I even forgot one of my daughter’s birthdays. That might not sound like much, but things like that are important to me because I grew up with a mom who made me feel like I didn’t exist.

Anyways, I was forgetting so much stuff that I had to get an assistant to help me remember things. It was hard to focus, and my brain constantly felt foggy. Last year, I decided to start taking my cognitive health seriously. I changed my diet, started going to the gym, and I actually got better. The results were honestly night and day. But for me, what really worked was adding supplements to that routine, and for the first time ever in my life, I can finally recall dreams. I read somewhere that it's a sign of enhanced cognitive function, better emotional processing, and higher brain activity, which makes me feel like I’m making progress.

Thought I should share this with people experiencing the same thing, because I know how it feels. Things get dark. You start thinking dementia is right around the corner. I genuinely believed I was eventually going to need to be taken care of. Just wanted to tell you there is a way back.

Edit: Forgot to mention the diet and supplements. For those asking here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/1t82luc/comment/okt5f7x/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Let me share a story l shared in another sub a few weeks ago. I had a successful campaign on Kickstarter and raised a little over 20k. I had made a concept for my product, but it was not a DFM version. So I was planning on using the money I raised to create a DFM version and ship out backers’ orders. I live in Melbourne, Australia, and there was a local small company named Perv Pete Labs, run by a local guy. They engineered products, so I went with them to create the DFM version of the product. I talked to the guy, he seemed legit and showed me other products he had made for people, which was cool. He also said he had contacts in China for small batch manufacturing, which was perfect because it would save me a lot of headache. So he gave me a quote, and everything was around 20k, so I wired it to him. Well, a month later it turns out ol Pete had a gambling addiction and lost all our money. Now he’s on the run because everyone is looking for him, including his unpaid employees. I have lost all hope of getting that money back, so I was thinking of a Plan B, using the rest of the funds and my own personal money to complete backers’ orders.

I posted this asking for help and haven't got much help at all, so any recommendations will help.

I own a new blog that gets around 2,000 daily sessions, and over 70% of the traffic is from the US, Canada, and the UK. It’s in the survival niche. I was thinking of implementing ads, but I don’t know if it’s still worth it with the prevalence of ad blockers. I’d love to know if ad blockers have affected your revenue, or how much you think I could earn, or how much you’re earning, with a similar amount of traffic.
