Why is dose this happen

I haven't played the watcher campaign since December of last year. I wanted to play it again and every time I eat a karma flower the eyes turn purple for a few seconds and back to normal. I think it's a it's a update but I'm not sure

Am I desensitized or not care?

I've seen people talk about how fucked up the game Is and how they can't stand hearing the expie yelp in pain or how gory the game can be or something. But every time I play and fall off a cliff on accident and hear the expie yelp in pain. I usually see the damage and not care about it. But I feel like it's because it's a survival game and I'm more focused on not dying but I'm wondering if it's just me or not ?
