Devs who have released a game - some questions
Hey! I’m curious to find more about y’all’s projects. I’m working on my first that’ll hopefully be released in March if all goes well. I’m curious about other people’s game dev journey so I had a few questions.
- What game did you release?
- How long did you work on it from start to release
- Were you 100% solo, solo but outsourced a few things, part of a team, etc…
- What was the biggest lesson you learned about gamedev in the process?
How productive do you feel after a day?
Hey! I’m working on my first game. And by that, I mean I’ve worked on several projects in the past that I learned from and gave up because the scale was too big or the project just wasn’t what I expected / wasn’t as fun.
I’ve found an idea that fits the balance I think well and isn’t too large for me as a solo dev. I’m about a month in, and I don’t work full time on it. I spend Saturday and Tuesday basically all day on it while my wife is at work, and then spend at least 2 hours on other days before bed doing work on the game.
I’m still new to this overall and sometimes I’m spending an entire day almost trying to fix one specific problem. Which I do enjoy, but I wonder if this is normal or mostly a gap in my current ability that’ll improve with time and experience. Some days I work a lot and I don’t shut down my PC at the end feeling like I accomplished much of anything. I guess just looking to see others’ perspectives.
Best mods?
I’m looking to play the game in as fresh of a way as I can. I’ve beaten it and the DLC and I got one of my friends onto it recently and he’s even more obsessed than I was 😂 but it’s making me really want to play again… problem is there’s no sense of discovery because I know everything.
Any updates on more Iron Lung releases on YT?
To clarify, I know that it is available in some regions of YouTube, but my problem is that I live in Japan. I can use a VPN for my own viewing, but I want to watch it with my wife who is Japanese and not fluent enough in English to enjoy English movies without subtitles. Has Mark said anything about more releases of the movie with subtitles in other languages?
