Seasoning residue?

Seasoning residue?

Not sure where I went wrong. Got what lookalike orange residue after seasoning a brand new griddle plate.

I did the following to the griddle:
Washed with warm soapy water.
Dried and let it sit.
Sprayed with avocado oil. Honestly, maybe too much.
Turned heat to high and closed the cover.
Left it for about 15 minutes. Probably got to 450 F.
(Was told that was it so that’s all I did. But was also told to repeat it, so after an hour, I repeated).

Went to check it today and giving it a wipe I got that almost orange, dirty looking buildup.

Is it just the oil? Something else?

Fixing ripped canvas seam in hybrid camper

Hybrid camper - Jayco. Where the white canvas above the bed meets the canvas on the side, the blue seam has let go.

Looks like it’s threaded but is that a good idea for a fix? We have had smaller tears before and used Flex Tape.

Any other ideas? Simply thinking of flex tape inside and out and just making sure it’s sealed. Caulking seems like DIY overkill but I’m not afraid of being stupidly cautious.

Any input is welcome. We do not care about having tape on the exterior - we like the character as long as it keeps water out.

Thanks!

White growth (?) under trailer

Noticed these under my camper. Scraped some off the cloth/tarp cover so I could share. Almost look like barnacles but also like a tiny hive/nest.

It is exclusive to this location and this is below an open storage area that’s beneath a folding couch.

You can see the fresh water tank which we rarely use. To one side is our kitchen faucet which has no apparent leaks (the boxes kept in the sink cabinet show no sign of moisture).

Any ideas? Not hard like rocks. They sort of flatten like paper when pressed with the penny shown for scale (banana felt like overkill).

Thank you!!

Sealing seams solution suggestions

Pictures are some of the exterior seams on the body of the camper. Old, some hardened, and as you can see in the third picture, some growing moss. The fourth image shows caulking or sealant around the utility shower but nothing on the window - same goes for all windows.

What’s the suggestion here? Add to windows? Strip and redo? Just layer new caulking on top? (I know that’s the wrong answer). Leave it alone and just enjoy the ride?

Any help is welcomed. I haven’t checked the roof yet but I reluctantly will.

Thanks!

Hot water heater - sanity check

Jayfeather hybrid trailer about 25 years old. I normally wing it but decided not to put everyone at risk. Connected to city water. Plenty of propane and pilot is lit.

Do I have to run the pump to get water to the hot water heater? Do I need to have water in the fresh water reserve? Or can I just get the city connection water hot?

It’s worked before but I simply don’t remember the situation. We normally shower at the grounds so it’s not an issue but I want to get everything running right and make note of the steps.

Thanks!

Fix the lock or replace it?

Basic lock on our camper door (image won’t post) but it’s near impossible to use from the outside. I’m shocked it hasn’t broken the key yet. Are these easy to replace? Is it as simple as some WD-40 into the keyhole? Or opening it up from the other side and spraying from there?

We bought the camper used maybe five years ago and had to buy replacement keys (came with none). Worked fine but the last year or so it’s been hard if not impossible. Goes for both locks. From the inside, it works fine.

Thanks!

Can lock be fixed or just replace it?

Basic lock but it’s near impossible to use from the outside - rarely turns. I’m shocked it hasn’t broken the key yet. Are these easy to replace? Is it as simple as some WD-40 into the keyhole? Or opening it up from the other side and spraying from there?

Is this bad? Trip lever/overflow plate

Did some scrubbing to get off rust stains (4th pic) from this acrylic or fiberglass tub (not cast iron) and decided to peek behind the trip lever and overflow plate. Is this a concern? Is it telling me anything about leaks or other issues? Third pic from below shows the metal is exposed and obviously that’s where the rust comes from.

Any info would be great. Thanks!

Edited to add tub material.

Removing rust stain from tub

Either rust or calcium? We had hard water but have a whole house filter now (stain was here when we moved in). What’s the best way to remove this? It’s maybe an acrylic or fiberglass tub - definitely flexible. Is a pumice stone ok on those materials?

And if it’s a calcium remover is there a brand of choice? I see multiple mentioned.
Thank you!

Recaulking and removing grout?

Previous owners’ work gave way. I’m removing old caulking to prep to recaulk it but finding a lot of grout. Just remove the grout? I don’t think the grout is needed but I don’t know much.

How to start with these spots - first time DIYer

Two different spots I’ve let go for too long. The first is a corner that I’d like to keep as simple as possible. Not sure where to start but I assume uproot, then maybe lay a cover down and save spots for something easy, and mulch. Any ideas or steps would be great.

The second with the tree is probably easy but there are roots and big rocks. I don’t want to deal with the rocks. So again I think maybe uproot what I can, cover it, and then mulch? Probably need something to keep the mulch from falling into the yard too much?

Any info would be great. Thanks!

I have added the new American Revolution documentary series to my library. I did so starting with episode 2. It has played since then. This week, episode 3 premiered. And now episode 2 is gone.

I am wondering if this is a PBS choice as opposed to a YTTV choice or glitch.

Anyone with similar issues with PBS or otherwise?
