Against the Current: Why are some of you blaming the Lin family for the Shen family's demise? I'm blaming the men of the Shen family.

The Shen family demise was due to the rigidity of Lanxiang's own male family members. The men of the Shen family sacrificed their women for stupid principles. They live in a time when the Emperor is the law. There's no appeals process. The Shen family did not bend and chose to march their own women to their death.

Why are some of you blaming the Lin family? They chose self preservation and the welfare of their loved ones including the women.

How is Jinqi to blame for this? If Lanxiang should blame someone it should be the Emperor and her own grandfather. The Lin family doesn't owe the Shen family anything on this account. Meanwhile the Lin grandfather looked at all of the family members that were depending on him and said, hmmm none of you are going to die on my account so whatever the Emperor wants is the truth. grandpa is going to save everybody.

Shen grandpa on the otherhand wanted everyone to follow him with honour [RIP].

Some of you think the Lins should care more about Lanixangs family than Shen grandpa himself.

Why do Maldivians refuse to believe that pedestrians have right of way at zebra crossings?

Why does everyone including HDC and the government refuse to tell the reckless drivers on cycles that they have to stop when they see a pedestrian, whether they feel like it or not.

This is the only country where they tell pedestrians to look both ways, like it's our fault when some selfish neanderthal barbarian on a death scooter cannot follow basic road etiquette and is determined to run us over.

Why are we so special compared to the rest of the world?

With the spate of recent deaths why are we still blaming roads and pedestrians instead of reckless and selfish drivers and blind traffic cops. Signalling at a turn is a lost art in Maldives.

Creating a fine for jaywalking v punishing reckless driving with jail-time (e.g. when mowing over a pedestrian trying to walk across a crossing) perfectly encapsulates everything that is wrong with the government.

https://x.com/hdcmaldives/status/2094337116964893013

an example of government endorsed stupidity. In what civilised country do pedestrians not have right of way? This is the opposite of what they should be saying. Where is the informercial for the wannabe Lewis Hamiltons?

In this HDC's waste of media resources infomercial we see a lady and her child calmly crossing as they should, so the message should be that the reckless drivers should slow down and stop? but that is the opposite of what we are getting.

How many more children will die, how many will be flattened on zebra crossings until the government wakes up and blames reckless drivers?

Who passed that road safety act with the jaywalking fine? You would think that a civil engineer President who studied in a world-class institution would have more progressive thinking. but this is what we get.

Are there pavements to walk on? can we fine the traffic police if they haven't removed vehicles from zebra crossings, and vehicles that have blocked pavements?

u/catiiidual

"Something I have seen is that many drivers think as long as the pedestrian has moved out of his or her way on the crossing they can pass through. This is incorrect. You do not cross a zebra crossing until the pedestrian has fully cleared it."

WAIT UNTIL THE PEDESTRIAN HAS CROSSED for the love of God.

Why do Maldivians refuse to acknowledge how much money we get through Tourism?

Let's look at the facts, before the tourism industry took off, we were one of the poorest countries in the world.

Anywhere between 50-75% of Government revenue comes from the Tourism industry.

That means the schools, the bloated civil service employees that work 4-5 hours a day max excluding breaks, the inflated SOEs, the inflated police. service, the inflated MNDF, the inflated Aasandha, the roads, all development projects etc

EVERYTHING is paid for with the revenue the government gets from the tourism industry.

We would be in a much worse condition than Sri Lanka without Tourism. Were we doing anything innovative before tourism? Life expectancy was under 40.

Income tax is less than 10% of government revenue. If we didn't have our tourism revenues, anyone making over MVR 15,000 would definitely be paying income tax. MOST people are forced to pay income tax in other countries.

So why do people act like the tourism industry should be dismantled, long-term growth prospects destroyed if the Four Seasons doesn't transfer money directly into their bank account?

And before someone brings up guest houses, it's still the resorts that are paying the most taxes, and are still taxed more heavily. It's not even close.

The irony of living off government welfare and handouts, while wanting the tourism industry's downfall??. The money didn't grow on a coconut tree somewhere Ahammadha, someone paid that money to the government as tax??

Any policies that harm the tourism industry would be crippling to the economy in the long-term.

If anyone doesn't like the tourism industry, first we have to actually diversify instead of dreaming about it. We can talk about it until the cows go home, but since the 1980s it hasn't happened yet?

I call this Lavazza Avamendhuru™ when a bunch of middle aged people sit at a coffee meyzu BSing about how we can do so much better, without every having done anything in their life.

How about instead of breaking the industry with a wrecking ball, we actually implement some much needed fiscal discipline to get through this crisis even if it is very painful? Fiscal discipline = government spending cuts. It might be painful today, but it might be important to ensure that we have a future, tomorrow.

In Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickramsinghe was vilified for his austerity measures and people hated him. BUT I believe history will be kind to him, because he did what he had to do for his country at the expense of his own career. That's real patriotism. They will see the long-term benefits.

Sahar - Danyal beef (if it exists) was also two sided.

Sahar also didn't seriously promote Zanjeerain, especially since it was going head to head with Shaidai. Not a problem, it is ok, though some may disagree.

I am not trying to speculate about who was right or wrong, and they both have the right to say whatever.

I am not going to get into the cold behaviours saga that kicked this off, but IMO this is the starting point at which tensions became public.

BUT some of y'all are acting like this is one sided when

  1. Watch Shaidai instead

https://preview.redd.it/lm05us5uc4hh1.png?width=1032&format=png&auto=webp&s=89ebb7009fadd9125a557b183435f22ee0fbb627

I understand she headlines Shaidai, but as a Zanjeerain viewer I felt that she probably could have responded to this more gracefully. It's not like Zanjeerain wasn't her show. She's also supposed to be part of the Zanjeerain team (cast, crew etc). If this isn't shady what is shade?

  1. He's alright, I respect him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTyJj1nWvfM

24:00

After being asked about the cold behaviour on sets, she name drops all the actors she liked

  1. Sajal,
  2. reza
  3. Usman

After the interviewer mentions well you didn't mention one name Danyal Zafar, you mentioned everyone but you didn't mention Danyal

She then says the relationship was "alright". It was "ok"

At this point SHE KNOWS that the cold behaviour speculation and question was about her and Danyal, so if she wanted to clear that up she could just have given the most generic PR we get along well, had a great working relationship generic one-liner instead of talking about everyone else. She could only bring herself to say that it was alright, after being pressed.

At 30:30

When asked whether she LIKES Danyal.. she says she respects him. She refused to say that she LIKES him.

Maybe Danyal is not very nice or not?, and we won't know what went down, but if shading Bano is shading Sahar, the energy has also been returned with shade. Obviously she likes her other male co-stars a LOT more because she was effusive in her praise about the other co-actors like Freezer.

We need more cast members to spill the tea.

The team redeemed themselves in episode 27. I smiled so much my face hurt.

I feel like 27 also included a lot of reshoot scenes (judging from the hair). However, it was so smooth and fits in perfectly unlike episode 26.

I hope they've taken the editing issues from 26 to heart. It took only one badly edited episode to push the haters into overdrive. The reshoot scenes were badly needed, because without them they wouldn't have brought the romance front and centre. Which is what we are all here for. We needed that clear delineation of the point where they fully abandoned the platonic phase of their relationship.

Episode 27 was well edited and directed with no pacing issues.

The pacing issue is also HUMTV trying to capitalise on the success of the show. What are 32 minute episodes? sub 30 minutes if you include the recap. On the other-hand I am grateful we will see all of the Sarbiya scenes.

Sarbuland and Rabiya are already falling in love. When it's forced marriage jirga time I expect Sarbuland to fake protest for all of two seconds.

I also loved Torsam's scenes. He's so unintentionally funny.

Zanjeerain fashion police edition: Sajal's best outfit

For me the dark blue outfit in the hospital scene takes the cake. A lot of dramas have mostly pastel outfits and this was just so chic and different. What's your favourite Sajal look in Zanjeerain?

https://preview.redd.it/87tkyjmdqyfh1.jpg?width=447&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68c8de7c462a65d2cff343f9b56abe20fe893bb2

The super princessy look here:

Followed by her bridal look:

What would her bridal look be for the Sarbiya wedding?

Can someone explain to me (a non Urdu speaker) why Danyal is getting so much hate for his acting and a constant stream of hate posts on reddit?

I don't think he's a flawless actor, but I'm enjoying his portrayal of Sarbuland so much. I realise that if I don't understand Urdu I might be missing some critical aspects.

Is the way he speaks weird or something?

I'm really enjoying the small nuances, like the " manner hands" as the korean drama viewers would say, relaxed and grounded approach he has taken with regard to Sarbuland. As OTT as Danyal's real life personality is, it really looks like he studied the book of gentleman manners and it's showing on screen. It gives Zanjeerain some historical novel vibes which is romantic.

I really dislike actors with OTT expressions (think bug eyes to express anger, nose flaring and eyebrow dancing etc).

Danyal isn't Fawad Khan but to me, he seems to be much better than some that don't get hit with this level of criticism .

Criticism I agree with:

I do think misery suits him, and his earlier episodes where he was happy, he was a bit too happy. The hand movements and the pre-Sherdil death era were a bit too exaggerated.

He has some level of pretty privilege, but I think this is a requirement for a lead actor. Sajal has beauty and acting talent in spades, but I'm sure they are many undiscovered actresses with talent, but without a beautiful face. You need both to succeed in acting.

I'm also pretty sure that there's one person making Danyal /Zanjeerain hate posts after her fave died on the show using multiple accounts. Surprisingly many people agreed with that poster (and their many iterations) so I'm wondering what weaknesses are visible to native speakers that I'm not picking up on?
