What is your colloquialism that means "In a small town of no significance out in the country side"?

In Kansas USA they say "In Bum Fuck Egypt" or in "BFE". In Denver, Colorado, they say "Out in Kansas".

My father, who died 19 years ago, had something wrong with him, but I don't know what to call it. This question is just to satisfy my own curiousity.

He was born in 1930, died in 2007. Married to my mother from 1950 'til his death. School teacher, taught science to middle school kids.

He never grossly mistreated us, fulfilled his fatherly duties, but generally he hated kids. He made breakfast, bought us what we needed, took us on long vacations every summer to every state in the US, was never physically abusive, never called us names, but he would regularly bawl us out, was regularly extremely angry at us over minuscule things.

One of my earliest memories was of having cereal at age 4 or 5, and my spoon would regularly noisily clang on the bowl, and he yelled at me to stop clanging the bowl. And then for weeks he would stare at me eating breakfast and would scream at me if the spoon even touched the bowl.

My mother (1930-2012)would intervene with things like that at some point. She was generally a serious woman and was not very loving either, but she generally did what she was supposed to do, I guess.

He took thousands of pictures on these vacations and would proudly create slide shows for us to watch. We had a room with a wall with shelves holding slide carousels from the vacations. I went through those slides after he died hoping to get some pictures of the family from years gone by. There was not a single picture that contained a human or even a man made object. It was all trees and mountains. I have no pictures of family from my childhood.

One time I was visiting as an adult and there was a time magazine sitting out, and there was a piece of masking tape across the eyes of the child on the cover, because "I can't stand children looking at me".

He burned out and quit teaching about a year before he was supposed to, to get retirement. The district allowed him to drive busses for a year to keep his retirement.

Man arrested for "destroying evidence" for duress password use.

Customs and Border Patrol cops can search your devices without a warrant.

They demanded a password to get into a random man's phone who was not suspected of any crime.

The man instead gave a "Duress password", which wiped the phone.

The thing that bothers me the most is that they are charging him with "destroying evidence" when they don't know that there is evidence of a crime.

That's why I regularly delete old social media posts, honestly. Because they can search your device at borders, and because our leader is baselessly declaring people to be terrorists.

What's a word that can't easily be translate quite correctly?

For example in English we have the word "Teen" which is derived from our spelling of numbers thirteen to nineteen, but the simple translation typically makes it into a word for "adolescent" which could be anywhere from 10 to 19.

What's the murder rate in your town, expressed as # per 100,000 residents?

For example, ST Louis Mo, USA had 150 murders and a population of 277,000.

150/2.77= a murder rate of 54.

LPT When you get a new wifi router, give it exactly the same name and password of your old one, and you won't have to reprogram all the devices in your home!

I got a new wifi router when I switched to fiber.

The tech asked me what I wanted for the device name and password, and I said "whatever".

So I spent the next few days changing it on 4 rokus, 2 TVs, 3 phones, an Echo, and finally my ring doorbell. I had to look up how to do it for the Ring. It gave that lifeprotip as the easiest way to do it, and then gave instructions for how to do it on the Ring itself.

If the Island born can't go to the mainland Costco....

The Island only has 3000 people on it, and I am betting at least half of them can not leave the island.

How do they get stuff?

The population is too small to support much in the way of grocery stores or whatever, let alone a department store or a car dealership.

The island will need to have a non-island-born character with a truck who gets the shopping done.

Bookmarks?

I just switched to GoogleTV from Roku. Fox bought Roku, so it has to go.

On the both, you can search for shows, and it will list all the apps that have it.

One of the options on Roku is "Save", and then saved shows and movies on your Roku appear in the Save List row on the left-hand menu of your Roku home screen, typically under the What to Watch section.

On the GoogleTV, there is no "Save" option, but there is a "Bookmark" option. So I have bookmarked some shows. How do I find a listing of shows I have bookmarked?

How do they make Kate O'Flynn look like Patricia?

If you have seen her in interviews, Ms O'Flynn transforms into a different person to become Patricia.

I realize a good part of it is the actress controlling her accent, facial expressions, posture, and movement.

I know little about makeup and even less about stage makeup.

So is Patricia made up to look like O'Flynn, or is O'Flynn made up to look like Patricia? Patricia looks like she barely wears make-up.

What subgenres of horror are left?

A brief web search listed the following as horror subgenres, and I was thinking at some point we are maybe going to see them.

So far we have had a Slasher and we briefly had a Zombie, but others listed are:

Demonic Possession

Paranormal (Spirits and ghosts. Furniture moves, a chill passes through the air)

Monster (I think a Kraken would fill the bill here)

Gore- Splatter (I don't really want to see this in this show)

Witchcraft
