My ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT is almost 6 years old. Here's what happened to it.
I bought my ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DT during the pandemic around 2020. The model itself is from 2019, so this thing has been around for quite a while now.
Instead of replacing it, I've just kept upgrading and repairing it.
Upgrades:
- 32GB SODIMM RAM
- 128GB NVMe SSD
- Still running the original CPU/GPU platform
But after almost 6 years, I'm definitely starting to see the age of the machine.
Current problems:
- Battery has significantly degraded
- Built-in screen no longer works
- Built-in keyboard no longer works
At this point, I basically treat it like a small desktop when I'm at home. 😂
The funny thing is that the motherboard, CPU, GPU and general system are still working, so I don't really feel like throwing the whole laptop away yet.
The 32GB RAM upgrade also helped keep it useful for work and multitasking despite the age of the platform.
I'm curious about other FX505DT/TUF owners:
How long has your FX505DT survived?
What has failed on yours first?
Battery? Keyboard? Display? Cooling system? Motherboard?
And if you've kept yours alive for 5+ years, what upgrades or repairs did you do to extend its lifespan?
I'm especially interested in hearing from people who are still using their FX505DT in 2026.
