Would love some help deciphering towing capabilities

Hello, I get very overwhelmed with all the different details when it comes to towing as we are just getting into camping with our 2 kids.

The camper we have is a starter camper for sure with the Coleman 17B

Specs are
Key Specifications
Sleeps: Up to 5
Dry Weight: ~2,985 to 3,088 lbs
Hitch Weight: ~398 lbs
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR): ~3,900 to 4,300 lbs

What I’m looking at pulling it with would be a 2025 Honda pilot TrailSport .

Max Towing Capacity: 5,000 lbs
Max Tongue Weight: ~500 lbs
Payload Capacity: ~1,100 lbs - 1,200 lbs

Would love any help and advice.

In the book Lonesome Dove the main characters drive a heard of cattle from the Rio Grande of Texas up to Montana. Why would settlers go all the way to Montana to settle instead of stopping in any of the open land they cross in Kansas , Nebraska, etc which seems a bit more hospitable weather wise?

Granted I know very little about cows and only really know the geography and climate of those states in today’s world.
