Week 17: Alpine - Frittatensuppe (Meta: Bucket List)

The theme that I tackled this time around is the Alpine theme! Unfortunately, I'm still behind. However, by me being behind, I was able to make my dish for the week in celebration of something! The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 just began, and it's being held in Vienna this year. Also, I'm a big Eurovision nerd. Therefore, it felt right for me to make an Austrian dish to commemorate it.

Not only did I make a dish from this year's Eurovision host country, I even learned about this dish from a Eurovision song. To be more specific, I learned about it from Austria's 2003 entry, "Weil der Mensch zählt" by Alf Poier, where the following lyrics were performed:

Der-der Unterschied zwischen Menschen, zwischen Affen und Primaten, der-der is net vü größer wie bei Nudl und Frittaten (The-the difference between people, between apes and primates, it-it's not much bigger than between noodles and frittaten) Source: Eurovision World.

Anyway, I began making my frittatensuppe by making my broth first. I first boiled my water separately, then poured it into a pot filled with chicken, cabbage discards, onion skins, and whatever else was in my freezer that was saved for broth. Then, I let the mixture boil for around an hour. I don't usually boil my water separately, but it did seem like it made my broth cook twice as fast, so I'd say that I made a good call there. Most recipes that I've seen used beef broth. However, I wanted to make a large pot of broth that I can share with Mama, who doesn't like beef.

While my broth was boiling, I prepared the batter for my pancake, which I believe are called palatschinken. I simply mixed together some flour, salt, eggs, milk, and water. Then, I let it sit for some time. I wanted to cook my pancakes while my broth was boiling, but I decided to go on a side quest, and prepare some pasta, and some bacon instead.

Once I got to preparing my pancakes, I simply heated up my griddle, put some butter on it once it got hot enough, scooped my batter onto my griddle, and then cooked each side until golden-brown. I assembled my frittatensuppe the day after I made my pancakes, since I ate some bacon pasta for dinner when I made my pancakes.

When it came time to assemble my frittatensuppe, I simply rolled up a pancake, cut it into thin strips, and then placed my strips into my bowl of soup. I then cut up some chives, realized that I'm not cutting my chives properly, and placed my chives in my soup as a finishing touch. Also, I added some salt, since I realized that I forgot to salt my broth.

The soup was pleasant. I don't know why, but the broth tasted like green tea. I made sure to cook the chicken all the way through. Perhaps the cabbage caused it to taste like that. Regardless, it's not a bad taste. The frittaten had a nice texture. I had the odd expectation that the soup will taste like supă cu tăieței (Romanian noodle soup), but I quickly realized how different frittatensuppe is. Also, the chives added a nice touch.

I ate my frittatensuppe around half an hour before the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 first semi-final began. It was a nice dish to eat right before the contest. I really enjoyed the show! My favourite of the night was Serbia, and they qualified, which made me so happy! I was also extremely happy to see Lithuania make it to the grand final. However, I am sad about Montenegro failing to qualify. Now, I wish Denmark and România the best of luck in the second semi-final. I really want Denmark to win!

Anyway, I hope that you all have a wonderful week!

Alright, I'm behind...again!

I'd say that the thing that I find the most-difficult is making the write-ups. I love cooking, and I could do it all day. I enjoy writing it too. However, I get tired while writing quite easily. When it comes to writing, I'm a perfectionist, and I constantly edit my writing. Anyway, I don't really know why I'm coming up with an excuse, since this challenge is merely something that I chose to do, and have no responsibility to pursue. However, I will continue pursuing it, since I love making new foods!

Anyway, today, I've dreamed up an orange blossom pudding. I've been experimenting with making milk-based puddings by combining some milk with cornstarch and sugar, heating the mixture until it thickens while whisking it, and then adding something inside of it to flavour it. For a while, I've wanted to make an orange blossom pudding, but I only got to it today. Also, I had all of the ingredients to make my pudding beforehand.

As previously mentioned, I made my pudding base by combining some milk with cornstarch and sugar, and then heating the mixture until it thickens while whisking it. Then, I added my orange blossom water. I decided that I want to go overboard with the flavouring, so I added 4 tablespoons (1/4 cups) of orange blossom water in the pudding.

I've decided that it would be extremely boring of me to merely present my pudding as is, without pairing it with anything. Alone, it just looks like a boring, thick, white liquid; without explanation, it could be anything, from white chocolate cream, to melted deodorant. Therefore, I decided to whip up a blackberry topping.

make my blackberry and orange blossom topping, I began by selecting my blackberries. I have two bags of mixed berries in my freezer, so I hand-picked my blackberries. The process stained my hands, and made me look like I was badly bruised. At first, I freaked out, since it looked like my hands needed an amputation. However, my hands immediately began looking better upon me washing them.

Anyway, after I've selected my blackberries, I let them defrost while I made Mama a chocolate walnut raspberry cake (more about that cake later). Once my blackberries were ready, I heated them up with some sugar. Once the mixture heated up, I decided to add some cornstarch. To be even more extra, I decided to add 4 tablespoons of orange blossom water to the topping as well. Mind you, I made only a small batch of topping.

Once I finished making my blackberry topping, I spooned some of it onto my pudding, and then ate it. As expected, I put way too much orange blossom water in my dessert. The topping tasted like pickles, for some reason. However, I enjoyed the flavour of it, since I like pickles. After all, I recently ate pickle ice cream, and even made a pickle cupcake for "52 Weeks of Cooking" a few weeks ago.

Anyway, it's now time for me to dream up something for the Alpine theme! Have a great day, everybody!!!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE THIS ALBUM!!!!!

Okay, I've already listened to all of the albums from "1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" and right now, this album is my 5th-favourite album from it. This is seriously some of the most revolutionary stuff I've ever heard. I'm not even into R&B, yet I'm encapsulated every time I listen to this masterpiece.

I still go onto the generator every day, but I haven't rated anything in a while, due to laziness. I think that I should start properly reviewing all of my missed albums again. Seriously, seeing this album pop up gave me so much excitement!!! :)
